8.0 is most alt-friendly patch since WoD

Those who prefer to have few obligations outside of raiding should be happy. Yes, there is lots of stuff to do, but little of it feels critical to staying competitive in-game. The stuff that does feel critical, like doing a 4-5 island expeditions for the weekly 2500 AP, are not very time-consuming. Pushing a key takes a little longer, but can be fun in itself (more fun than raiding imho). Figure one hour a week to do islands, 30 minutes every 3 days to do emissary quests (if you still need them for any reason), and one night a week to push a key... We're only a month into the expansion, and already I spend as much time leveling my Dark Iron as I do playing my main. For better and worse, it's an easy time to work on alts, without sacrificing on your main.

All they need to do is introduce another Warfront in 8.1 so that there's always one up and we're pretty much perfect for alts.

That is true to an extent. The downside is that WoW devs send mixed messages about that with their philosophy on alts and rep.

Hopefully the rep tokens come sooner in BFA than Legion.

No way. You can easily get follower missions with 850 reps per, or sometimes less, for me the biggest pain is that stupid turtles, 2k in honored atm, even with contract. Every other faction have revered or something like 11k/12k, but I have almost no WQs, end when was emmisary last time? I'm 120 for two weeks now.

You say that like those follower missions are an acquirable thing. They just come sometimes, and sometimes they don't. Either way, you're still severely timegated under an alt, hitting diminishing returns on Champions rep farming after mere minutes a day. Log in, check mission table, do the 2-4 Champions WQ's that spawn. At that point, either you spend an insane amount of time clearing every random WQ on the board for tiny contract rep, or you just log off and wait 'til tomorrow. So this "alt friendly" expansion just asks you to wait a solid month of pure time gating before your alt becomes playable.

Yes, but my point was that there is a faction with worse rep gains because you cannot have any follower missions to help with. Not to mention that I'm leveling two alts, one do every rep mission and sometimes AP and one only questing. The second one has overall better XP and rested, first has better reps like 7th Legion and Champs. Both sux with turtles. I'm using app, so there is no problem with missions with its 2-4 hours duration mostly, with loger ones later on. Check, send, wait, collect, send...Champs and 7th Leg. rep is like timegated, with turtles timegated AND content gated, because you have less choices to get it.

It's matter of prestige? For me personally is my shaman, I have the most exalted reputation on. But she was not my main during legion, so if I want to count it to next achiev (50 or 60 exalted, dont know now) I need to do it on her. Every Legion exalted rep I have on my DH counts only as done, but not in those concrete achiev. The counter is stuck on precise number of exalted I have done with her.

You are misunderstanding. I can't tell if it's deliberate or not.

CoA rep gives 15 item levels on your Neck 3 times till you're at 21000 rep gained. So it's kinda essential, yet extremely time gated.

An 850 follower mission once a week isn't going to get your allied races to revered till the end of the expansion.

30 minutes to do 3 emissaries? Yeah... no.

This. And getting Azerite gear isn't better either. I find it significantly worse than Legion Legendaries.

I've never timed it, but it's not far off that. If you wait and do 3 at a time, a lot of them tend to overlap. But even if you take an hour for emissaries, the overall time required to keep a toon raid-ready in 8.0 is much lower than it was through most of Legion.

I say it is alt-friendly, because already I can keep my main ready to raid AND have plenty of time (over half my game time) to play my favorite alt.

I have never found leveling to be all that slow or burdensome. Heck, the hardcore players had 3 toons leveled and geared 340+ before the first weekly reset. I am not hardcore, but if they can do that in one week, how hard can it be for the rest of us to get it done eventually?

Dungeon-Reputation-Tabards are alt-friendly, everything else is just playing multiple mains.

I'd say any kind of catch-up mechanism (e.g., war fronts) is alt-friendly. I'd also say that the less time required to keep your main prepared for whatever level of content you choose to play, the more time you have for alts, and the more alt-friendly the patch. That's how I think of it.

Gear and Crafting really. You also need 7th Legion rep to open up bases to make travel less annoying.

yeah but why bother on a alt

You are talking about it from your experience of playing alts? Because these outposts are account-wide.

Theres plenty of optional content but most of it isn't much fun for mains and the rewards for doing it are dogshit, so yes alts are the way to go.

I thought they had learned their lesson after legion but nope. They've gone back to raid or die, and they've overtuned the normal mode raid again in two senses - one in the sense of how geared you have to be to do it and the other in how many people you need to kill some bosses.

I'd say its more main friendly (providing you just want to raid and then log off)

They'll need to sort it out soonish or there'll be another subs exodus. I think they will though, and the framework is there. Azerite gear just need to be better in general and have a constant levelling system with achievable step goals to make it worth farming. Yeah it'll suck for the mythic raiders but all 12000 of them can suck it up.
