So hard to know who to believe in this case...

The person who passed a polygraph and wants an FBI investigation into the alleged incident?

Or the person who refuses to take a polygraph and does not want an investigation done?

    Really tough decision.

Murkowski Kavanaugh vote: Flake, Murkowski back FBI investigation; Senate committee advances nominee

Following Flake’s announcement, two other senators considered swing votes — Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Sens. Joe Manchin III (D-W.Va.) — indicated that they support Flake’s call for a delay.

“The American people have been pulled apart by this entire spectacle and we need to take time to address these claims independently, so that our country can have confidence in the outcome of this vote,” Manchin said in a statement. “It is what is right and fair for Dr. Ford, Judge Kavanaugh, and the American people.”

So you agree, Kavanaugh is not credible.
Its not so simple as that. Before they could just dismiss the calls for an investigation. Now they have outright rule one out and say "No we will not do it!" That would be toxic to republicans in the mid-terms and their election prospects. They can do so but there's going to be a big price to pay if they do, and now there is an additional substantial risk they'll not have enough votes to pass him if they don't carry out such an investigation. Its significantly changed the balance of probabilities.

Yeah but this is that 1% time when republicans actually do something that isn't completely cowardly.

The person who disrespectfully yelled and evaded questions yesterday?

It’s a background investigation, because the issue is of character.

    Uh that is ignorant.

It's not about her or the single incident she cites. It's about whether he belongs on the seat with all the allegations and varied character flaws against him.

Never said either one was, i just want an official law enforcement investigation

Anyone saying they believe one or the other is full of shit and has no basis to their credibility but prepared statements published and read during a laughable hearing.

That is the sad part is neither party really cares what the truth is and most people on this board either.

I'm not necessarily sure you understand how background checks like this even work if you think previous ones have any bearing on a new allegation.

It's not a trial. He's applying for a job. Four people have accused him of sexual assault, and his defense is a lie. How about we investigate further instead of making him one of the nine most powerful judges in the country, eh?

Why the fuck is this so difficult for you to understand. Waiting doesn't do anyone, at all, any harm. Oh, wait, except for Trump. Whoops.

There has to be more info/evidence coming forth. The Judiciary Committee walked out just before the vote, from both sides. The other accusers still exist, and they can't just be ignored.

Exactly. Kavanaugh steps down, and we'll let the courts handle it. Only honorable thing to do.

No, it does not necessarily belong in the courts. Senate hearings can also be the place for it, as can FBI/DoJ investigations.

that's not even true since a new congress does not even get sat till jan

so he has 100 days to investigate and vote.

they don't want to chance an investigation because if they find anything then the time required for the next possible candidate will be after jan.

So what you are saying, correct me if i am wrong...using the last example....

if they find a body in his backyard
they should not bring it up in politics or his confirmation....

and they should vote to confirm him then let the folks in MD deal with the body later.......

    hmmm interesting.

As others have pointed out, Hardiman (one of many jurists waiting in the wings) could be confirmed by next week. Squeaky clean, conservative - he could be interviewing clerks by November.

But Trump wants his get-out-of-jail Justice on the Court. So we're here, still honestly considering a serial rapist for the Bench.

(sorry about the tone, not attacking you - I agree with you)

  18. #3778
It isn't a surprise that a republic which elected a "grab them by the pussy" president chose a rapist as one of their their live-time judicial leaders.

The Governor already said he won't investigate it.
