In any case, I feel like all we can really do there is increase exposure and understanding. It's tough to rationalize blaming "society at large" when problems like that are right there at home between a parent and their child. That's so personal that it boggles the mind to imagine how a parent could act that way toward their own child.

It's not just a parental problem, though. It's also an employment and discrimination problem. I'm highly educated, myself, and I feel it. I have a friend who is a published mechanical engineer, and she hasn't been able to land a full time gig since she transitioned.

There's a damn good reason so many of us are poor or can't even access medical care.

She had to apologize for revealing how the sausage was made so to speak, not because anybody in the PC world thought it was bad what she said. And moreover she only had to say she was sorry, whilst having a legion of apologia written for her actions from the very same proponants of PC culture.

Well, I can't speak to that one since, 1) I'm not trans. 2) I'm having similar issues with employment and am pretty bitter about it (Turned down for a development job by a company using tools I wrote, how nice) so my first instinct is to just say, "Yeah, me too." but that's not really intellectually honest nor is it really helpful, I know.

I honestly am abandoning my profession. I'm a teacher, and the moment I fill out the form for a background check the phone stops ringing. Throw in being riffed and the only one not hired back at my previous school (despite an all star eval) the semester after I told them I was transitioning, and I feel your bitterness, hon.

I'm so bitter I interviewed with the state for a Department of Revenue job yesterday. Better pay and benefits, and I may have a future there.

That all said, I still have it good. I'm just sick of the pronoun thing superceding those who are clearly struggling.
