Why unsubscribing is the only solution we might possibly have

    Hey there,

After seeing all the discussions regarding why Blizzard seems to be so out of touch in this expansion, I wanted to share my point of view about what I see as the solution and why.

Let me start by saying that I do not think the problem is developers being incompetent and unable to design a proper expansion. To me the main problem seems to be the strategic decisions that are forced by the upper management of Activision Blizzard. After all, dev team is only there to execute within the given budget and achieve the objectives determined by the senior management.

WoW and MMORPG genre is not the hot stuff anymore and in fact as we all know WoW is way past it's prime. Thus, the game is being treated as the "Cash Cow". What you want to achieve with cash cow type of products/services is you either do not invest at all or invest as low as possible while trying to squeeze out that last bit of revenues before the product/service eventually dies out.

WoW is exactly at that stage where investments are not so profitable anymore but there is still a market that has the potential to bring in revenues. What they are basically trying to achieve is to come up with a game design philosophy that could keep people subscribed for as long as possible while investing in the game as little as possible. So, what better way is there to keep people hooked up other than adding more and more lairs of RNG? Titanforging/warforging, weekly m+ gamble chest and all other RNG based game design has no cost for them to implement, but has the potential to keep people hooked up for a while because you simply cannot be BiS at any given time anymore so you keep farming and farming and farming.

Making the game fun is simply too costly for them at this point and they will not go with that option UNLESS they see a dramatic decrease in their subscriber numbers. Why do you think tier sets are removed from the game? Why do you think we did not get a new talent row or new skills as we hit 120? Because all of these things have their cost, and they are simply trying to minimize their investments in this game.

I really do hope that people will speak with their actions and unsubscribe at this point, because as many other people pointed out, Blizzard will definitely not take actions in the direction we want until they see the decrease in the subscriber numbers.

Ofc it's only solution and it does work very well. Just need enough players to actually use that.

Yes it is the only solution.
World of Warcraft just isn't an MMORPG anymore. Unfortunately it's mostly thanks to the loot whore players-- LOOT LOOT LOOT, SCREW RPG! SCREW IMMERSION! SCREW SOCIALISING OUTSIDE OF RAIDS! I mean just look at the forums and Q&As. All people talk about is Azerite Armour not being perfectly balanced or how their class is 'useless' because it doesn't have the utility of others.

WoW is a 'Co-op Raid Game '. There is no real open world social game with your character as an avatar like a MASSIVELY multiplayer ROLE playing game should.

What if we're having fun with the game? Should we still unsubscribe because you said so?

If you're having a great time with WoW then clearly this isn't the thread for you. No need for the 'you don't speak for me' dramatics.

Well I've seen people go after those that still play and hound them to unsub, insult them constantly. My first post was to see if the OP was one of them.

I just unsub 2 days ago, after 2 months of BfA. Game is just a reskinned Legion, but even more boring.

You're right OP, minimum investment into the game and copy paste what already exists is the new motto of ActiBlizzard management. Don't care if the game is released unfinished as long as sales meet Q3 results.

Theoretically, unsubscribing to WoW would damage the company and this way, they could not work with maximum capacity. However in Blizzards case, this might work in reverse. The reason for that is that WoW money is being used for other games such as Overwatch. So I think unsubscribing if you dislike the game is a good indicator that something has to change.
If you dislike the current WoW, then go ahead and unsubscribe, but let them know what is the reason for that, otherwise it's pointless.

If you're having a great time with WoW, this whole "fan"site is nothing for you.

I'm starting to wonder why I even come here anymore.

u can stay with the special snowflake 10% who think bfa is great (also i didn't check that poll since ages, doubt it changed anyway)

@ topic, I know they 'listen' only to their wallet, but it is a solution that i hate far more than them, for me wow is one of best things in my life, and for them to make me actually unsub and not wanting to play is actually hard imo
I did unsub, but i really REALLY hope they fix at least some points, i'll play again, i just don't know when

can u actually tell me what blizz is doing ? diablo 3 seems blizz hate it the most, overwatch fans were crying for content so blizz gave us a league that plays at 2 am that u can't follow even if u want (i think blizz don't know that most of their fans are actually not in usa), sc2 has hacker problems since day 1 and was never fixed (hence why in hots they reworked stealth), wow they not working at all and it is very clear after a diarrhea of content that was legion, only game they are doing fine is HOTS but still not enough to kick LoL from its moba throne
what IS blizz doing ? focusing on hots ?
The beginning of wisdom is the statement 'I do not know.' The person who cannot make that statement is one who will never learn anything. And I have prided myself on my ability to learn
    Thrall
http://youtu.be/x3ejO7Nssj8 7:20+ "Alliance remaining super power", clearly blizz favor horde too much, that they made alliance the super power

You must be one of those people who goes in a "Reasons why you think WoW sucks" thread to tell everyone how great you think the game is.

Because we got Azerite armor instead? Do you honestly think it's easier to invent a whole new system with literally hundreds of different abilities than a few tier sets abilities and an extra row of talents?

Most of the things they've been doing in the expansion are pretty advanced. Azerite armor, island expeditions, warfronts, none of these are easy thrown together things you build overnight. Sure, none of them have been particularly well received because the end product have been lackluster for several reasons, but still these kinds of systems isn't what you would see from a company that has thrown in the towel and considers their product a cash cow.

Yeah, this is a huge problem as well. People doesn't play the game for fun, they play to get ranked high on a dps-meter or on a webpage, and all of Blizzards design decisions are influenced by that nowadays.

The best example I have is the old talent trees. I freaking loved them because they were fun to play around with and gave some personality to your character, and I never cared about them being the absolute best despite playing at a very high range in both pvp and pve.

But apparently we can't have that system because according to both Blizzard and the playerbase, everyone just uses cookiecutter builds to become as strong as possible.

I've got plenty other examples but I think this is the one that is the most clear-cut imho.

I actually agree with OP and other replies. WoW is no longer an MMORPG, and I have unsubbed because of it.

It's not fun for me in it's current form, and I am investing my time in things I enjoy
Here is something to believe in!

If you assume everyone that enjoys the game is a "special snowflake" then I'm afraid that says more about you than them.

You must be one of those people who go into random threads to complain about people not being dismissive of the game. Because that's what you're doing right here.
