Garrisons in wod was Blizzard's attempt at player housing. Unfortunately it suffered from a lot of design changes that watered it down so severely from what it was originally supposed to be. At the start of development there was all sorts of talk about the customization of the housing, pvp, guild housing, etc. But like much of wod it got cut back and cut back until it was really basic shell of player housing with only the most minimal customization options.

So since they've been down that road before and it didn't go that well, I doubt they'll go down the player housing path again anytime soon. There were some good facets of it that were carried forward to Legion and BfA though. There are a few other mmo's around that do the housing more like it sounds like what you're looking for, even if they aren't as good as wow in a lot of other areas.

There are also pets and mounts who cost gold, used as gold sinks. Even gear from vendors can be bought to complete appearances. Having some house assets on vendors is nothing different.

Lastly, if you want easy portals you can use dalaran hearthstone from legion, the dalaran ring, hell, you can use the 3 guild cloks who hearth to Org for insta dalaran portal. Having them in your house (with a cost, be it quest reward, bought with gold or boss drop) will actually provide nothing more than you already have available. Just more CONVENIENCE.

Come back with better arguments, because so far, you fail to dismiss the implementation of housing as detrimental to the game. It's just going to be more collectable content (just like mounts, pets and mogs) with achievements and profits to be gained and gold sinks to be spent at.
Guess you have never heard of mount battles?
Also no you show about 3 pets at a time in a pet battle, and again pet battles very much give rewards.

and again, few would do these houses because how many players do you really think will invite eachother to their houses, how many of your friends invited you to come hang out in their garrison?

Real True Features that is missing from WoW is Real Talent System from Vanilla, Siege Weapon PvP BGS, Legendary Weapons that isn't a requirement, Class Tier Gear, and most Two Features of them all is Warcraft 2 Races and Trench Coats. But mostly Trench Coats. Because Leather Armor for Rogues is kind of dull in terms of same old dark assassin theme gear.
High Elves and Wildhammer Dwarves are finally playable in the Alliance. XD

I see, but i don't agree. Does it have to be necessary? It's like saying you "have to" transmog your gear cause you can. You don't have to. It's optional.

The difference here is you can get all those utilities in a space you created to look the way you wanted. So, it will naturally have sentimental value for you. If you don't care, continue using the city, but if you do, you now have a space you can call your own. That is not useless, imo. It's customisation and people love that.

Why exactly do we need vanilla talent trees back? Sure, it was fun to have hybrid specs, but they were often unviable and for the rest there are no options. I mean, it's no different than the minor traits on artifact weapons. Completely pointless.
Though i understand the request cause truth be told the current talent philosophy is trash. Having 3 talents that do basically the same is daft. I liked it in WoD where you had the choice to specialise in ST, cleave or AoE. There were real choices there.

Back to those minor traits like vanilla, they could have that in a different way, like layouts. But lets be honest... it will just end up with cookie cutter bis builds.

    Good ideas?.. Likely not
(I'd even argue a little about transmog, but this is a bit unnecessary in frames of current topic and also not much important)

Concerning "Housing". In general, the same cosmetic stupidity as pet battles (synthetic meal replacers, not a content), so isn't worth much attention, especially considering the constantly changing geographical features of the world and developers' methods variability. They tried to fit them into the “plot” in one or another form in few last expansions and, honestly speaking, it was horrible and would be better for them to remain what they are - just decorations (although if we'll remember selfie camera and music box... they could take someone from "third-level" team, supply him with good sandwich, and then maybe... as a big separate patch...). Another thing is ex. "guild house", which could be like a privilege for certain crews among server/realm's plebs, but this doesn't change their conditional, cosmetic and minor principles in general. More like will cause questions and errors than real benefits. In addition, as already mentioned above about “methods” - concept of server self-awareness is already irrelevant, design has been changed completely.

ps. Let them fix the game, but don't disperse their attention on useless cosmetics.

yes, its one of the things WoW is missing, but its by no means "the" thing its missing, and the thing that will make people want to play BfA.
it would be a nice addition, if done right (unlike garrisons)

Or a feature to find your perfect gaming mate.

WoW doesn't even have character customization yet. A few haircuts and the extremely constrained transmog system hardly count.

I can only imagine what customized housing would be like in WoW. Something like; "Blood Elf Theme Lantern Pattern", 1% drop off some old-school raid boss. 2000 wood to craft, of which you grind by pressing go on a mission table and get 200 of which each day. And with the inevitable 1% drop off dungeon trash too, 5000g a piece in the AH to keep the addicts and token buyers happy.

Garrisons really have nothing to do with housing at all. It was Blizzard's attempt at doing something that alot of other games did successfully but add their own spin to it, sadly they didn't understand what player housing actually is, how it works and why people like it. The same mistakes are made by the usual hurr, durr, smash posters here when refering to it. The only thing Blizzard showed back then was that they are incapable of adding things that involve customization, as we can see with the character creation and the severe limits there. It might be partially due to the engine or because they are creatively bankrupt these days, but the only thing I can agree with is that I rather they don't do it, because I know the current team would just fuck it up completely.

Everyone seriously playing wow should have understood by now that features such as housing is not the way wow works anymore... it has turned from a social adventure to a modern "gogogo" "push mythic+" "fill a bar", "content in timegating" game. Dont get me wrong, its fine, I love the game as it is but if I really want relaxing, social gameplay features I play other games.

Wow is the game with the player restrictions, things as housing, dye colors and transmog everything you want is not blizzard style sadly. Garrison is blizzard housing. Live with it.

PVPers are a Niche community, so are Raiders yet people will bend over backwards for them as if they are the holy grail of wow. Which 99% of those tiny little slivers (when next to the size of the casual players) are nasty self absorbed trolls that care nothing about the success of the game but rather success of their personal referenced content.

I would just like to point out to all you young'ins that Star Wars Galaxies let you not only build a house, but build entire CITIES that people could visit whenever they arrived at the planet the city was built on. You bitch, moan and complain at the people requesting player housing, claiming that nobody wants it; the problem is that nobody has implemented it well yet, so you don't know what you're missing. Granted, WoW's...well, WoW in general, I guess, couldn't support such a thing as player-made towns, but if they pulled their creative heads out of their asses, they could make a player housing system that would actually be worth investing time into.

Instead they give us WoW: Farmville for, what, 3 expansions in a row now? Because everybody loves mission tables and checking your vegetables every day.

People rolled their eyes and complained about Poke- I mean Pet Battles, but that feature continually gets support whereas Archaeology does not. If they continue to support it, it means that enough people must enjoy it. If Player Housing became such a feature, it too would continue on. They simply need to make it in a way that there are things to collect and display, and that it can be interacted with or at least viewed by other people. As it stands the only thing we really have to 'show off' is our gear, and transmog, while I completely support it, has almost completely nullified that as people can just cover up whatever their hard-earned gear looks like.

The game has so many problems nowadays that are numbing the experience of World of Warcraft, but the fact player housing was promised at the start is still a point of frustration for a lot of players. Blizzard implied that Draenor was going to finally fulfill that want, but it did the absolute opposite and made a great many players conclude that this design team simply doesn't have a clue how it should work.

    Honestly?

The whole game should get a complete overhaul, be redesigned to make its old content meaningfully available, and have player housing added.

Practically none of this will happen.

And if you can live with it, that's cool; enjoy your time.

Similar to how pet battles now have their own dungeons because they were so well received.
That's what baffled me for a long time. They already have all these art assets, the dozens of chairs, tables, candles and what not, categorize them, add them to professions, boom, 90% of player housing done right there. Add some PROPER armor stands that show all your equip not the sad pathetic shit from legion with only head & shoulders as well as some trophies for achievments like raid kills, story progressions, etc. If you are smart let people actually pick up many of the lore books for your collection, there done, you have achieved player housing. Now you need a zone change door and a square room to start and a small interface modification to place things, change orientation etc.

I would love to see some modder or intern show up one day and put the whole team to shame by just cobbling it together in a few weeks as a side project.

Someone doesn't like to raid. Without the raider community WoW would have never found mainstream success, and would likely be all but dead today. Maybe the rated PVP community would be enough without it, but I think that's far more niche. I bet you dislike them too. Without either WoW would be a game about "collecting shells" for soccer moms.

Actually that's not true at all. The players who buy cosmetic items from the WoW Shop on top of their monthly subscriptions, keep the game going. Go look up the stats for the percentage of players who actually do Mythic raiding. It's very small.

No community is better than the others. But somehow I doubt you have the clarity to see that.
