I agree it's outrageous to have Viagra ads on a site that has anything to do with WoW, it's not like it's going to boost its sales.
First-party distribution of mods is a can of worms, as they could be viewed as responsible for all content thats included there.
Also, I doubt I would earn any money from a first-party addon store, while Curse pays quite well for popular addons (as part of their revenue sharing program), while keeping the addons free to users.

The more interesting part is that there's nothing about this on MMO-C news yet.
They always told me I would miss my family... but I never miss from close range.
"Better go to github. Or gitlab. Or Sourceforge. Etc."
TO FIX WOW:1. smaller server sizes & server-only LFG awarding satchels, so elite players help others. 2. "helper builds" with loom powers - talent trees so elite players cast buffs on low level players XP gain, HP/mana, regen, damage, etc. 3. "helper ilvl" scoring how much you help others. 4. observer games like in SC to watch/chat (like twitch but with MORE DETAILS & inside the wow UI) 5. guild leagues to compete with rival guilds for progression (with observer mode).6. jackpot world mobs.
Love the add on, so cheers for that.
Anyway, I feel like Blizzard need their own platform for add ons/mods, similar to what Bethesda did with Fallout 4 and Skyrim Special edition. Where it’s an option in-game and you can just go straight to the website and download what you want without tabbing out.
Failing that, perhaps moving to nexus mods might be a good call?
Maybe Curse will continue to be a viable platform for add ons and nothing will change.
I’m not expecting much change with MMOC besides a shitton more ads. Wowpedia and the other gamepedia sites will be the biggest casualties. WoWiki is going to be the mainstream again I guess.
Every video game rises and falls. Be it quake the one time king of deathmatch, halflife 2, counter strike, or call of duty and battlefield. and yes before it Everquest then World of Warcraft. No game rides the top forever, as the fanbase moves on either through new interest or a waning playerbase, new games will rise to take their place. I think the reality is even the developers are bored of the game. As sad as I am to see wow decline, I am excited to eventually see what will take its place. What company will learn the lessons that wow gave us both wanted and unwanted. We still have quite a bit of time before the game closes its doors permenately, (afterall it was designed to be profitable on 300k players.. not the millions it had).
Call this blizzards midlife crisis, we will get through it, and with the words of wisdom they themselves gave us i leave you with this caveat...
"No king rules forever"
Thanks for your addon at any rate. I downloaded it the second i saw it.
I'm more worried about what it will mean for Gamepedia. Fandom/Wikia is utter garbage and essentially forced the forking of WoWWiki into Wowpedia. Now they're buying it and will presumably want to force all the Gamepedia wikis to use Fandom's garbage layout.
I'm pretty vague about all this. What program does Curse have that Twitch is keeping?
As for Twitch, it is owned by Amazon. I'm amazed that there would be any issue of addon creators not getting paid by Twitch or Curse. In general, though, I think this is further evidence of the slow demise of WOW and probably other MMOs.
The schedule of fullfillment of the author payments has always been a bit wonky. For the record, I was just paid 5 days ago for my latest author reward request placed in november.
There usually is a delay of about a month, and orders are fullfilled around the beginning of the month. So the one I placed early in december will probably be send in early january.

Wowinterface is still a thing. If something ever happened to curse it'd instantly become the defacto #1 that everyone uses. IIRC, Wowinterface is on the same network as Wowhead (ZAM), so they'd adequately promote it to get everyone to switch over (it just receives minor promotion right now). It's sort of like if something ever happened to Wowhead, everyone would switch over to WoWDB.
With that said, I'm not an addon author, but does Wowinterface have all the necessary tools/backend? I'd assume so, but I wonder if they're equipped to handle 10x+ (?) more traffic than before. I'd assume Zam would hire a couple people to help out as they've done a lot of hiring for Wowhead. The site still has retained the same feel from 8 years ago without any too major renovations. (frontpage is definitely more functional)

Wowinterface should take note of the huge minecraft community too but then again some other site is probably already out there. Hopefully the site being called wowinterface isn't too much of a turnoff. Maybe they could buy up the domain minecraftinterface or something lol. But yeah, real talk, might not want to devote their resources to minecraft, but something to monitor.

If you look at the forum list there's an area off to the right that lists number of threads and posts for each forum. I suppose you could write that down every day. I don't know that it proves anything and has nothing to do with the sale that I know of. This is not the most active forum on the site by a long way.
As well, I can't imagine anyone doing this for some time before Blizzcon so you would have a valid comparison of what traffic is in normal times like during a content drought.
I can think of other ways but it's a terribly small point to prove for the effort involved. But you know, as they say, there's nothing too trivial for someone on the internet to want to know.
