Nobody knows what consciousness is, you can find half a dozen definitions on the internet. I think chimps are certainly conscious, dogs probably are, but insects? I don't know.

Which part are you having trouble with? The part where you are killing a person for their brain, regardless of what they were in life, assumingly without their permission?
