Are we ignoring that universities often push rich kids through and give them what's essentially an honorary degree, because their parents donate a fuckton of money?

Ocasio-Cortez is from a working-class family who got through school by her own merits and by winning awards for funding.

Trump graduated with a BS in Economics from Wharton. No honors whatsoever. And before you link him lying about this, here's documentary evidence of which he'll provide none to counter; https://www.pennlive.com/news/2017/0...record_at.html

Ocasio-Cortez graduated with a Bachelor's in international relations and economics, and graduated cum laude. So, with honors, likely in the top 25% of her class. Unlike Trump.

So yeah, no. He's wrong on pretty much every possible grounds.

Edit: Hell, here's rankings of US schools for Economics degrees; https://www.usnews.com/best-graduate...omics-rankings

Boston U? #23. Not quite as high as U Penn, at #10, but not a slouch either. Cum laude at Boston U is going to be given greater esteem than managing a pass at Wharton.

Oh yeah don't get me wrong. The dude speaks like he is having a perpetual stroke, but if you want to show off degrees, Trump beats Ocasio by a long mile, heck I and most people here beat her.

edit: It doesn't help she says dumb shit like this:

unemployment is low because everyone has two jobs.”

Yeah, and how is that dumb? When jobs don't pay a living wage, people have to take multiple jobs to, y'know, live. If everyone currently working only had one job, unemployment would be higher. This is obvious on the face of it. Why are you so ignorant? Why does AOC scare you so much?

Why vote against your own self interest for the wealth of the mere 13,000 rich families that make enough money to even be affected by AOC's tax plan? They make so much money, they can pay this tax and still be fabulously rich. How is that "punishment?"

A guy makes 10,000,100 dollars. After taxes he brings home 10,000,030 dollars. Oh my god, the cruelty! It skims money off the top from the richest who benefit from our society the most, in a way they'll miss it the least.

In the 1950s it was 90%. And that was one of our most prosperous decades.

Because they don't know any better. Tax breaks don't work because the government needs a way to make up that shortfall in the budget. As the OP immedieately suggested, there should be a carbon tax on everyone. So, tax breaks and increasing the taxation on workers and middle-class - the EXACT reasons why the protests in France happened.

My God, I seriously hope that one day these people would actually read book on economics, instead of just repeating whatever they hear on YouTube. Newsflash, that YouTuber and/or talk show host will defend moronic policies like tax breaks BECAUSE THEY FALL WITHIN A HIGHER INCOME BRACKET. Stop voting against your OWN interest.

Oh yeah? Where do you get this information from? Because the US has not raised its taxes (top marginal or corporate) any significant amount since just after WW2. In fact we've been lowering taxes on both of those groups continuously since the late 70's and there's been zero correlation between tax rates and jobs. If anything at all, we've seen wages and well-paying jobs shrink the more we lower taxes.

Sounds like you were just talking out of your ass.

Tell that to the people who lose their jobs when minimum wages increase. Rich people put profit over everything else.

Any economics books will cite carbon tax as the best way to address climate change.

As someone who actually has a degree in economics and is sitting next to a bookshelf full of my economics textbooks you really need to stop acting like you know your head from your ass when it comes to the economy. You really really don't. I wouldn't trust you to balance a checkbook let alone make poignant, logical policy analysis and recommendations.

Carbon tax is one way which is something you rightardists have fought tooth and nail because TAXES EBUL. So let's not talk about leftist ignorance when it is essentially single handedly the right who's blocked a carbon tax.

Subsidies are another excellent one but you rightardists seem to love idea of raising taxes on imports, while at the same time claiming to love free markets lulz, because unlike import tariffs they encourage domestic production.

Perfect case in point of you rightardists and bad public policy/no understanding of basic economics is when trump did exactly that. We cut subsidies, raised tariffs, and anyone with a brain could've told you that by not lowering the price of more expensive alternatives while also increasing the price of chinese solar panels all you did was create a massive job loss in the American businesses that maintain/install them while increasing exactly zero sales of American solar panels because exactly like before they were largely too expensive for consumers. Meanwhile a subsidy would have increased the sales of American panels by making them cheaper and stimulated the business of all the related businesses that sell/install/maintain them. All that lovely bit of rightardist policy did was make China's global position stronger and hurt domestic business.

This is what liberals actually believe, just ignore those who do most of the polluting.

lol thinking capitalism can actually stop climate change.

Do you know how carbon taxes work?

It does just that. It taxes based on how much people pollute, those that pollute the most end up paying more.

The aral sea is clearly the superior commie solution tho right? Or the many coal plants running in China lol.

And even then, they will just ignore economicists like Richard Wolf, just pretend only conservative and liberal ones exist.

but im sure an economic system that puts profit above all will fix it, somehow.

It can... Pretty much the only reason reusable energy hasn’t taken over in US, is due to crony capitalism. We had a former Exxon CEO as Secretary of State and CEO of Trump Organization as president... that’s not really capitalism. That’s heads of state owning major industry.

That’s one of the stranger parts about Trump’s reign. He is supposed to be this wrench in the system, but outside of just being belligerent, he is a further step towards the very bullshit he is supposed to be wrecking. They elected an Oligarch, who has never served in public office, because he was rich. But... we should be afraid of rich man Zuckerburg? Ha? Ignore the oligarch and focus on the guy who has been rich for less than 20 years? We had a shadow of Rockefeller’s in Secretary of State... wtf...
