There's a reason why if you work in a nuclear-oriented field that you're told never wear or bring a personal dosimeter on an airplane flight... unless of course you want your employers to think there's some contamination issue when they check your dosimeter later. Yeah, that's not fun for anyone, lockdowns suck.

Anyways, Chernobyl is mostly fine now. Just don't go eating the local vegetation or licking every surface you come across, and you'll be fine. I still wouldn't go there for vacation, I prefer my radiation be from sunny beaches... which ironically is probably deadlier than visiting Chernobyl now.
Not really sure why but your post made me smile pretty good.

I would like to go there and visit around. I have always had a fascination with gloomy desolate places.

This is one of the reason i would love to go there
    before tourism destroys the place.

It's a nuclear waste of time.

it would be pretty interesting to spend a day there, as part of a bigger tour through the region. but i wouldn't go there just for Chernobyl alone.

i could see myself going on holiday to Kiev and taking a daytrip up there.

Reading this article where a guy took his wife on holiday there https://www.bbc.com/news/stories-46923899 got me thinking would i ever dare go to visit the abandoned city of Chernobyl home to the worlds worst nuclear accident?

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chernobyl_disaster

Now from what i have read it really is starting to become a popular holiday destination and experts declare the area is now safe but would you dare go?

Its certainly would be a spooky and interesting place to go and see how people lived in the old soviet union and its almost like a time capsule of the era.

Though experts say the risk of exposure is now negligible as long as you follow safety advice you should be ok is it worth taking the risk?

Me personally i would prolly pass but then iam not what you would call adventurous.
there is no danger in going there, as far as radiation goes. you get more radiation on the plane ride and going through customs than you do actually visiting the area. a relatively small number of people got thyroid cancer as a result of the accident, but thyroid cancer is very treatable, and only ~15 people have died as a result. there has been no marked increase in any other cancer, birth defects, etc. its all myth. I would go there if I had the chance.

I wouldn't be against visiting Pripyat, but it isn't at the top of my list for places I'd like to see. Miles Power talks about always wanting to go and filmed a bit on location in this vid. Seeing it made me, personally, more amenable to visiting.

yeah for sure. there isnt much to do in a mostly evacuated area. i think the novelty would wear off after a couple of days.

Friend of mine went there with a friend. They were wearing a dosimeter at all times. He works as a nurse. Says he caught less radiation there than he would in half the time working at the hospital.

His heart stopped on 59th day and they brought him back even though he wanted to die. That is cruel, I feel like he should have been allowed a choice of lethal injection after 3 days, or at least no extra life support + morphine instead of making him suffer for 83 days.
