That is definitely immigrants that we have to thank for Popeye's chicken. Specifically a uniquely American mix of immigrants from different countries. They technically were... it just has nothing to do with evils of fascism. The economic policy of a Nazi Germany, isn’t what you think of, when you think of Nazi Germany. It’s why I point to Spanish Civil war, where 2 factions of communist, fascist and anarchists, all were fighting each other. The fact that all 4 favored a form of socialism, isn’t really the problem. It highlights how it’s more of a red herring, where the heart of the argument is authoritarian control. I would even argue that socialism is ingrained in nationalism...

Another way to look at it, is the immediate aftermath of Lenin’s death. You really just had the left Trotsky fighting for power with a right Stalin winning the conflict. If you really look at USSR, it has far more in common with fascism, than any liberal ideology. Trotsky’s USSR, would likely not have had a conflict with the west. Both were socialist in their own way, but were incredibly different in the way of governance.

Personally, I really don’t care as much for the socialist vs capitalism argument. Both are equally legitimate, with all of it relying on how it’s implemented. Authoritarianism is the real problem... that’s what fucks over the people... socialism on authoritarianism, is as bad as capitalism under authoritarianism.
