The Trump administration on Monday announced sanctions against Venezuela's state-run oil monopoly, PDVSA, in a move to kill the main source of revenue for the regime of Nicolas Maduro and empower opposition leader Juan Guaido.

The sanctions divert the proceeds of U.S. purchases of Venezuelan oil to a blocked account, preventing the regime of Maduro from receiving it.

If Venezuela can't make good on some of the loans, it's a certainty that Russia will take over a lot of the oil interests in the country.

For all the good it'll do them. Venezuelan crude is so exceptionally low quality, not many places in the world can do the sort of refining needed to make it into high-value product. It'll end up in the hands of American energy conglomerates sooner or later.

For the 500th time, Denmark is not socialist. Having more socialized programs funded through higher taxes is not socialism. The Denmark government isn't seizing the means of production. Funny enough the only reason why Denmark works is because of their free market economy.

From what I've read, America refines much of Venezuela's oil. Venezuelan oil is extremely heavy and contains a lot of sulfur, America has the only refineries that can handle it.

Maduro should've thought of that before becoming such an asshole.
