A person who is legitimately disaffected with where their (ex) political party looks like me. I have a very long record of saying very consistent things that adhere to the political philosophy I believe in, and then a divergence over time with my party that is thoroughly examined and agonized over. People reading my stuff over years can tell when the movement away from the Republican party came. And when the actual breaking point came, it happened IRL. I didn't make a fucking post about it.

Because telling people you've known for years IRL, that worked hard to keep me (and my wallet), generally like and respect that you want nothing to do with where their party has gone isn't a trivial thing. They worked to keep me, and I had to basically tell them "you failed, and you weren't close". Certainly not like "ohhhhh AOC said some things which offend me! Trump 2020!" which is what these cartoon characters online do.

That's what a real political shift looks like. And as I said, there's no going back. I'm still a conservative. I'm one of the most actual conservative people here. And I mean actual conservative, not a gun-worshiping, anti-government, anti-science paranoid nut job that should be locked in a padded room. But I'm not a a Republican anymore. I won't be again until they clean house in the most fundamental of ways.

I've been a Democrat as long as I've been voting (since voting for Kerry back in 2004), but this new wave of ultra-left leaning SJWs who are trying to make me feel ashamed for being a white male or not knowing the correct "pro-nouns" when talking to a LGBTQ is starting to wear thin on me.

I'm a Democrat, but I'm am as center leaning as possible. At this point I'd probably consider myself an Independent over a Democrat now.

I am:

Pro choice, pro guns, pro socialized healthcare, anti-wall but pro stricter immigration policies, pro-marijuana legalization, pro gay marriage/rights, pro death sentence, pro green energy, I think climate change is a serious problem that we must address, I am for small government but I am also for more corporate regulation. I want higher taxes for the rich but at the same time recognize that we WILL lose businesses here to other countries if we keep taxes high.

Most of my interest aligns with the Democrats, but this new wave of snowflakes who think I'm inherently evil because my ancestors may have owned slaves is keeping me at bay. I may vote Republican in the future if we get an actual sensible one to run.
