Umm no. The project was built upon Blizzard being able to justify that they could make money off this. This big boy company doesn't care about your trivial forum dweller banter. They saw $$ and went with it. They would never do this if they didn't believe it was profitable.

They've never done this, even when they released sub numbers, they never used an active player metric. So no way in hell they will start now.

This is a huge thing being discussed for ages....years on the forums and in the community in general.

This is a thing of legend proportions. This is stuff written in legends.

    Science needs this numbers.
No they don't, you're just being a drama queen.

We have been discussing this project for MANY years on the forums.
    Many many many many years.

I still remember the thread "Will blizzard reveal Vanilla wow in this blizzcon"

    Everyone was like "no"
    Other were like "yes"

The "wall of no" was presented to us.

This is stuff of legends man...you had to be here.

MAU's are their activity metric, no?

Why would they, there's nothing to be gained. Plus there's no possibility to sub for classic only so they don't know them either.

    Thats right!

    They always reveal MAU's, right?

So they will have to show us the MAU's of Classic and Retail
Do you think they wont seperate them and will keep them together...to not make drama?

No, they'll show you the MAU's of World of Warcraft (That means, both versions in one pot).

    Thats a very good point...
They will probably keep to themselves the numbers...until is APPORPRIATE for their agenda (lower numbers)

They'll want to brag but at the same time it will be an embarrassment if Classic gets more attention than battle for rng or the next expansion that by the looks of things will be even a bigger casino

They show the MAU's for Overwatch on its own, so one would guess for WoW too.

Well, we're talking WoW. Can you find some for WoW? If they released those, I'd be incredibly surprised never having seen/heard of them, and would love to see them.

live and vanilla subs are the same, so they won't announce.

they will however plaster "x million boxes sold!" "x million people play on first week!" "fastest selling game in <technically correct context>!" "more popular than expected! expanding server capacity!" all over the place, and then be very hush hush about how much it declines in the following months.

going to be an interesting time for census sites though.

Do you really think the company goal is to have their cash-cow be unsuccessful? Having played since vanilla, I think that the classic server will not be as widely long term played as live. It will have a large surge when it releases, then die down to low levels.

As for releasing sub numbers, I think that releasing that info probably has too big of an effect on stock values, seeing as interpretation of that information is not necessarily straight forward.

    Im checking the Quarterly results
i checked from 2016 to 2018 and they never said exactly what MAU's each game had.

They referenced it a couple times:

Like one time they said WoW MAUS grew 10% with the release of Legion.

But thats about it they never go on specifics for each franchise

Doesnt look good for my theory...but i still believe in it.

It seems really unlikely. I can't imagine why they would. There will be a drop-off after launch--I don't care what anyone else says--and then they've set a precedent. Additonally the subs are the same for Classic/Retail so if they're not reporting it now they won't report it then.

It would be great if everyone got it through their skulls that ATVI isn't using this as a metric any longer. No one else does in the gaming industry so why should they? It's really simple but people just can't let it go I guess.

If I had to bet you will never again here a word from Blizzard Entertainment about how many people are actively subscribed to any of their games.

The idea that they will do this to deliberately slap-in-the-face the "You think you do but you don't" crowd is one of the most moronic 12-year-old-inspired ideas that I've read here recently. Just dumb. Businesses don't work that way. It's unprofessional and the sort of thing that angsty teenagers do in a fit of emotion.

Why the FUCK would any game company do that? Just why? It pisses me off no end that anyone thinks the adults in the room at Blizzard Entertainment entertain thoughts like this. Jesus Christ.

Blizzard's agenda is to make money. Generate revenue. Create games that are profitable. They aren't waiting in secret getting ready to point at their customers, yell HA-HA! LOSERS! and tell them to fuck off.

They would probably release sub numbers as percentage (e.g +20%) or raw numbers (+500.000 subs), i strongly doubt they will say "we have x milions total subs now"
