    I played Vanilla and on mine and many other servers, this was not the case. DM was Deadmines. DM + direction was Dire Maul. DM East would never be mistaken for Deadmines and DM wouldn't be mistaken for Dire Maul since there were 3 different Dire Maul instances and you'd need to specify which you wanted.

    This. Also I don't remember deadmines being called vc ever, I guess it's a NA thing

    Oh damn right lol. I'll just pretend we would usually gather to Gadgetzan before running Dire Maul

    Not that hard, really.
    DM is Dire Maul.

    It would only be Deadmines if you were an Alliance scrub, because for most of Vanilla, barring a few twinks, Horde never ran that crap.

    Nah everyone wrote it at as DM at least on my realm.

    I only know about "VC", because I believe the Atlas addon used that name

    No one cares. All I did was check their level and assume if they were above 30 it was Dire Maul.
    I care if you know your vanilla WoW or not. Some dude even made some quizzes on Youtube about it recently. Anybody who played vanilla WoW and knows about it, is an awesome person in my books (minus trolls of course).

    played on warsong horde- VC was what people called deadmines- although Dire Maul will always have a north east or west associated with it.

    I've found that EU and NA abbreviations and whatnot differ quite a lot- especially when you get into your more eastern european countries. And timing of when people played matters- early wrath was all HardModes instead of heroic.
    There's also nothing stopping Blizzard from resurrecting both Arthas and Archimonde and turning them into super saiyans so that they can fuse and fight Sargeras

    deadmines doesn't get it's own abbreviation. why abbreviate something half of horde players don't even know exist. doesn't save time to abbreviate it at that point.

    i imagine its the same for alliance with dungeons like wailing caverns and ragefire chasm.

    Dire Maul was always broken down into wings or specific runs (i.e. tribute, west, east, etc) or at least that was what I experienced. Though I remember bigger arguments over how to traverse Maraudon/Wailing Caverns/Uldaman

    Some faction pride there.

    Horde would run it too but it's too inconvenient and deep in Alliance territory, but Horde gets Wailing Caverns and Ragefire Chasm (RFC). Alliance gets Deadmines, Stockades and also Gnomeregan. Technically, I think Deadmines is more of an Alliance dungeon than Wailing Caverns is a Horde dungeon. Still too few Alliance bother to go all the way there.

    Deadmines was out first, it will always be DM. Referring to the dungeon by the end boss (VC) has been the dumbest thing anyone has ever come up with since 2005, especially when WC already stands for Wailing Caverns. Just like how Kael'thas was never abbreviated to KT because KT is Kel'thuzad, DM is Deadmines. Using DM to describe Dire Maul is stupid since you need to specify which Dire Maul anyway and at that point it becomes a different abbreviation completely so the connection to Deadmines doesn't even matter anymore, for Dire Maul you either just say DM East/DM North/DM West or DME/DMN/DMW, former being the preferred option.

    Just because we know it doesn't mean we agree with it. Deadmines was referred to as DM by the vast majority of the people I played with back then and continue to do so to this day.

    Alliance ran WC, SFK and SM, and Horde definitely ran DM and Gnomeregan. No idea what you were smoking but inconvenient locations never stopped anyone. RFC and Stockades are a whole different story.

    DM=Dead Mines
    DM<direction letter>=Dire Maul

    Since the Classic relaunch will put these out in phases (similar to OG classic but with less time between most likely), DM=Dead Mines is the only DM available at first (Dire Maul is in PHase 2), so people will adjust and get accustomed to it, just like they did 14 years ago.

    Horde did run DM, but not as often as alli, just like alli ran WC, but not as often as Horde.
    Twinking was a big reason for specific items (park your rogue friend outside, kill everything up to the boss, have them zone in for the kill, rinse repeat... god that sucked).
    But others were people who simply wanted something different to do so they would take the long, arduous journey.
    On a PVP server, it was kinda fun because random skirmishes and stuff would break out all over, especially outside WC, though the turd alli sacking crossroads would eventually make their way there, squashing low levels, but still, fun times are had by going to these remote locations.

    That explains it, I saw it on PS's and thought it sounded odd.
