Battle Pass - Season One now on PTS for Testing

It seems before Trion Games went belly up they were working on this new addition to the game called a Battle Pass, now Gamigo has appeared to finish it and it's on the PTS (Public Test Shard) to snoop around at and play with.So what exactly is this Battle Pass?

    Greetings, Ascended!

Prepare your weapons; the first season of Battle Pass goes live very soon!

    _________________________________________________

What can you look forward to?

Progress through 30 levels (Season 1) by completing Daily and Weekly Quests

5 Daily Quests (+2 for Patrons) per Day
    Quests chosen at random

    3 Weekly Quests per Week
    Quests chosen at random

    30 Levels of rewards
Rewards split up between Free (no purchase required), Premium (purchased the pack) & Patron Premium (purchased the pack and have active Patron status).

Free rewards include a new artifact set which unlock their own unique rewards, individual reward charges, rune unsocketers, and more premium service items.

Premium rewards include numerous fiery cosmetics, as well as the new Great Balls of Fire mount, bonus credits and more!

Patrons who unlock premium will also gain bonus rewards including Loyalty, premium lock boxes and more!

    _________________________________________________

The end date of Season 1 has not been set in stone yet, we shall announce it at least a month before Season 2 begins. We’ll be monitoring progress, and compiling feedback before we start planning Season 2. Once Season 1 is finished, you will have at least 7 days to claim all of your well-deserved rewards.

    Battle Pass - $9.99 / £7.49 / €9.99 - (Giftable)

While on initial look you'd be thinking "hang on, 10 Euro/Dollars whatever, WTF?" a closer look at the rewards that your hard earned money gives you are a new, unique mount, cosmetic fire wings, a few thousand credits, Loyalty and other goodies so add all that up and it's not a bad deal for €/$9.99 or £7.49.

Here's an example of some of the daily quests, it will have you doing old Expert Dungeons, PvP Warfronts, the usual 'close X Rifts' in the Open World and the weekly has you doing Old Skool raids and more:

There's a bit of controversy about the dailies that have you winning Warfronts as X Class as Primalist is a paid for class but there's enough choice of other dailies and weeklies to make up the ppoints as each level is XP capped, as you see from the screenshot level 1 is capped at 10,000 points and i already earned 7,000 without doing some dailies/weeklies.

An example of how the rewards will look, these are the "end" scale ones:

If you want a look at the full list of rewards, Rift Players Holyroller12 and Ambrodel have posted lists:

    http://forums.riftgame.com/general-d...ml#post5374020

Bear in mind that all this was just pushed to the PTS yesterday, this is not Live, the final version might look nothing like this, rewards and quests can be changed or adjusted based on player feedback.

    LOL.

Who the hell thought it would be a good idea to have the paid classes/souls as a requirement?

    Jesus bloody christ.

Rift Community Manager Zyra posted a short video showing off some of the looks and effects from the cosmetic items you get as part of the paid Battle Pass version.

All the hipster 'kool kids' play games with Battle Passes, popular ones i can think of off the top of my head, APEX Legends, Fortnite, DOTA 2, H1Z1, guess Gamigo is getting ahead of other MMOs first.

I already explained the whole Battle Pass idea above, in this Thread i posted a Picture of the rewards:

The Battle Pass is totally optional, you are under absolutely no obligation to pay for a Battle Pass, in fact as you can see in the list, you can do the Battle Pass Season for free and still get rewards, obviously if you buy the Battle Pass you reap better rewards.

10 Dollars/Euro will get you 1,500 credits from the Rift Store:

You will get 1,500 credits for completing Season One so that's your money back already, now factor in the price of all the cosmetics, the mount, the vials etc and you can see the price is a bargain, again, you're under no obligation to buy/take part in this Battle Pass Season, it's just something to take part in if collecting cosmetic looks and stuff is your interest, the rest of the game continues on as normal.

Those free rewards are terrible lol.

But yeah battle passes belong in games like MOBAs or BR games. Not MMOs. Don't see how Gamigo are "getting ahead" when they don't really have any competition in the F2P industry with a game like Rift other than probably Neverwinter and that is stretching.

MMOs have the gear treadmill for player progression, whereas APEX, Fortnite and H1Z1 have no progression system with rewards outside of a battle pass. That's one of the reasons why they have one. You're comparing apples to oranges. Just looks like an embarrassingly desperate move.

Rift isn't getting ahead of other MMOs first because none of the other MMOs are desperate to stay afloat. Rift has failed to keep up with the MMO curve and it's why most people have forgotten it even exists. ESO, WoW, Guild Wars 2, FFXIV etc are just straight up better games. I'm not saying they're perfect, but it's not hard to be better than Rift.

So... everything we were worried about with Gamingo was well founded then? Well, I'll go pour one out for Rift then.

So they are adding dailies but if you want to get the worthwhile rewards from them you have to pay real money? You have to pay money to get rewards from dailies? Jesus, just put this shit in the cash shop and be done with it. It's not like this is a subscription MMO that they want to keep people online, just sell it.

I used to love this game and Trion. I would keep my sub up while taking breaks or playing other things because I really wanted to support them. It's heart breaking to see how it all ended. And there's not even private servers to enjoy the glory days anymore... What a god damn shame this whole thing is.

So we blame Gamingo for completing what Trion was already working on?

Gamingo came out and said they didn't like the business model Trion was implementing. Then they put this on the PTR.

Rift graphics were already horrible and poorly optimized when the game was released lol

I might try some of the free stuff

Maybe some of the quests will breath life into the old content, and make BGs actually pop

Yeah, they didn't pick the best location to show this off (largely just an empty space with decent ground texture) and the framerate is all over the place. This is very oldschool "We booted up fraps and didn't have anyone with any professional video creation/editing experience put this together".

I get it, they're likely running on a razor thin budget. But it's still not a great look for the game.

I mean it's free and all...but I was still super underwhelmed. They need to be busting their ass to bring in new and returning players. This seems less like a tool for that and more like a tool to simply monetize existing players better.

Hey, at least we're getting a harder version of a dungeon. That's more than Trion did for live servers in over a year.

Did you really think they would change directions this quickly? That would be a lot of wasted money, better to put it out and make something. Same way Bungie won't be able to fully start their own plan till the current annual pass is complete.

Luckily all this is still on the Test Shard, plenty of adjusting before it goes Live. Gamigo have listened to some feedback and have already made a few changes as posted by Dev Avathar, baby steps in the right direction, no need to buy your Primalist pack.

Based on player feedback we are making the following Battle Pass Adjustments:

Daily Mission count is being reduced to 4 for free player and 6 for patron players.
Class specific PvP quests are being removed for the time being.

Hmm, listening to big issue feedback.

I'll give Gamigo credit for that one. (cough TRIPLE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA publishers)
