Uk porn ban to come into effect in july

After 15 July, all internet users will have be forced to prove themselves to be over 18 or be entirely blocked from seeing adult content.

Those checks could include having internet users enter personal details into a privately-owned database or buying a pass from newsagents. There will be a number of different ways for people to prove their age, the government said, all of which will be "rigorous" and are not simply typing in a date of birth or ticking a box.

If pornographic websites fail to comply with the rules, they could have payment services withdrawn or be blocked for all UK users.

It's for under 18 people only.

Do you think people under 18 need protecting? Do you think the ban will have a positive affect?

Too bad there is 0 way to actually enforce it without breaching personal privacy.

I am sure a culture that flat out bans porn will result into much healthier relationships later in life than a society that is open about the fact that teenagers are also sexual beings and it's ok to have sexual interests.

Of course minors need protecting, they are kids...now maybe 18 is a little high but there is a line where they need to be protected. Only a suicidal society wouldn't protect their minors.

I wonder if this counts only for the real stuff, and if so, will we see a rise in teens with drawn/animated materials for their enjoyment?

Remember all that bendy banana autocratic EU crap? (Which was by the 100% fake).

    Who exactly is authoritarian here?

Looking back at my youth, I'm not exactly sure what I'd need protecting from. Watched porn since I was ~12.

And I'm not sure how they want to do this without explicitly coupling identity to individual internet users. "Buying a pass from newsagents" yeah lol.

Yeah.... sometimes it's not just human bodies. There's some stuff in there kids really shouldn't be exposed to. Not saying the ban is a good idea or that it will even work, but it's not as simple as "it's just sex" because it really is not just sex.

Look, lads, the effects of porno on the psyche are well documented. While I generally disagree with bans, or prohibitions, I also know that the mind of the average 16 year old is malleable and easily corrupted. Unbridled access to pornographic material can have very serious consequences. Should it be banned? Well, in my opinion no. People should just learn how to parent.

This will be a weird topic of mostly grown adult men adamantly defending the rights of teenagers to jack it with no restrictions lol

It's cute they think that this will stop underage kids looking at porn. It's kind of like using Bead Curtain to secure your home.

This isn't a "ban". This law has always been there. The legal age in UK to purchase and view pornography has always been 18.

This is just an actual enforcement of the law for the first time since the internet became available and widespread. The UK government gave porn companies ample time (well over a decade tbh) to come up with a better solution, and they just ignored it in the name of clicks and adverts, so now they are being slapped with the ban hammer.

Not sure what all the debate is about with all honesty, just an actual enforcement of law for a change, lol.
    True.

Any idea how they intend to actively enforce it, though?

Naked bodies are being banned. That's the issue I have. It is as simple as that.

Nah, that's not what's being banned (nothing is being banned, in fact). Unless you think every single type of nudity constitutes pornography, which is wrong, obviously.
