The biggest selling titles each year is Call of Duty and Fifa.....

Those alone show the casual playerbase and a lot of people buy systems just for those titles.

I wouldn't call those games casual.

You wouldn't call a game where people just play with their friends or just pick up for a few min's at a time casual?

The problem with calling things "Hardcore" or "Casual" is that each person has their own definition of what the words mean because when it comes to gaming nothing is actually set in store.

A guy playing Call of Duty 2 hours a week is just as casual as a grandma playing Farmvill for 2 hours a week.

I think that a guy playing call of duty 2 hours a week and nothing else is playing it casually, but I don't think many people do that. Maybe I'm wrong.

Nether of us has any data to say ether way. So you claim there is more hardcore or casual players on console is pointless.

Kinda why using the terms Hardcore or Casual in gaming is kinda pointless anyway.

Not really, there is a reason why phones are the dominant form of gaming.

Just because you can be casual on a phone that doesn't mean you can't on a console.

Also phones are cheap as well. Much easier to get a 30$ Smart Phone then to get a $300-$400 console. Your just goal post moving at this point so unless u got some actual data to back up what your saying we are done here.

In the west - (which really is all that's relevant in this conversation) - mobile gaming is definitely not what people want.
What people want? Do you have any actual numbers to back up your nonsense(what your friends are playing isn't actually numbers btw)? Because the numbers I provided basically prove the opposite of what you are spouting. The truth is, phones are the most dominant platform for gaming. East, west, south, north, that is just reality.

And that isn't hard to do when a $30 smart phone can play Candy Crush.

Again, if you can not provide any data outside of what your friends are playing, than your entire argument is bullshit.

I got a free phone from MetroPCS that can play Candy Crush just fine. So yea, the accessibility is high for playing games on phones. You don't see Sony and probably Google's Stadia giving away access to games. But that supports the idea that a $500 PS5 is not going to do well. The more people that have the hardware then the more people that can buy the software. Not that anyone buys mobile games because mobile gaming is awful. Hence why they're all free to play predatory grubby micro transaction simple games.

Sony's biggest failure of a console launched at $600 and still managed to sell over 85 million units.

If you honestly think the PS5 is "not going to do well" be it at 400, 500 or even 600(which lol, we know won't happen but they would still salvage it like they did the PS3) you been smoking some good shit. The price will only dictate how fast it's momentum picks up initially(and with PS4 BC it already has a massive head start on momentum from what will be a 110+ mil install base by time it launches).

Then I'm talking to the guy that thinks the Switch isn't doing well- so not a surprising bad take.

86 million PS3's sold and they a started at $500/$600 and ended at $300. A $500 PS4 will do fine as long the marketing behind it is as good as it needs to be.

Not to be too nitpicky but people do it to me all the time, it was 83.8 million PS3 sales.... which was pretty damn good considering 360 only did 84 million and was out about a year longer.

Still nothing compared to PS2 though with 155 million, don't know why that particular console is so high when the next two down are hand helds which tended to sell like hot cakes. Followed by the regular playstation and then then the wii to round out the top 5.

Edit: This is weird... for some reason they lumped the GB and GBC together in this list, but not the DS and 3DS. If you put the DS and 3DS together in the same way, they were the best selling "console" in history.

PS2 was high due to being the cheapest DVD player and also you got the benefits of a console. A lot of the PS3 sales was also due to it being the cheapest Blu-Ray player. At the time the PS3 came out the cheapest Blu-Ray player (besides a PS3) was like $800-$1000.

Really, the were that expensive? Damn... bet MS is still kicking themselves over the HDDVD thing.

IIRC the original Xbox played dvd's but you needed extra equipment? May be totally remembering that wrong.

Regarding PS3 sales numbers- the last official number from Sony came 2 years before it was discontinued. Even tho VGchartz numbers are usually ass pulls it's a pretty good bet it hit or passed 85 mil.

Not even extra equipment. You needed to buy the remote, it was a shameless pay wall. The system was perfectly capable of playing them without it- they just locked it behind an expensive accessory purchase.

Last reported sales of PS3 were 1st quarter 2015 at .4 million sold. MS stopped reporting individual system sales around the same time (2015), so it's a horse a piece really, either could be higher.

But yea, I remember all that crap with the xbox and dvds, we had both but I honestly think we just had a dvd player too.
