People are lonelier than ever these days, society has become pretty alienating in the last 20 years. Wages are stagnant for most people and cost of living is going up faster than wages. Young people especially are as a whole in huge amounts of debt compared to previous generations. Cost of real estate has gone up far faster than wages in many areas.

All the things millennials' parents had seem permanently out of reach for a large percentage of millennials. Most young people are doing worse than their parents did.

It's a stressful time for all these reasons, stress makes people angry.

Literally yesterday on the way to movie theater to watch some superhero movie i was sitting next to a literally sobbing 18 years old guy, because he ran out of money to pay for his education and now has to go into army contract to pay his debts. I couldn't imagine back in my 18s this to even be a thing, education was free, plenty of work, plenty of income to spend on shit you don't need.

Maybe they are soft? Previous generations had wars to fight or pot and protests to attend to. Sports were cool for the generation afterwards. What do people do now. They play the vidya and complain online. You views aren't challenged because you can always retreat to your echo chambers.

I suspect this has a lot of truth to this. I see lots of angry young men through history. Often times there was a war to fight somewhere that would give their anger an outlet, and/or thin the ranks of the angry. You can see angry young men culturally in all of the last several decades.

Also I suspect there is likely just as many angry women, they just tend to process it differently.

Very true the more that young men feel dehumanized and devalued by society the more chances there are of them lashing out in overly violent ways.. And if they don't do that then they could end up commiting suicide, as the suicide rate among young men is quite high because they feel like they are not wanted or needed..

Not sure whether I accept that there are more angry young men now than there were at previous points in history, but if there are, I would point the finger at inequality as the root cause of their anger. The links between inequality and violence are there for you to find if you're interested in finding them. The internet has made the divide more accessible than it has been at any other point in history. You don't have to be proximal to the wealthy to view their wealth; if you want to or maybe even if you don't, you can see it whenever you're online. In a way advertising is built on the idea of heightening your awareness of your inferiority so that you can pick a product to build yourself up with. But consumerism doesn't fill that void and some people aren't capable of earning enough to satisfy their desire to accumulate. You can blame their shortcomings and turn them into a moral reason for the have-nots to not have, but the plain reality is that some people lack the internal systems to sufficiently improve and if we don't adjust our system accordingly the violence caused by their anger is the resulting waste product.

It's mostly men and not women, I'd guess, for hormonal reasons. The cultural reasoning seems to ignore the effects of testosterone on personality. It's not an excuse for violence, but trying to blame it on some kind of male expectation of privilege isn't going to get you very far.

How is it resolved? Build the destruction of black holes of wealth into the system. As far as I can tell wealth has a gravity-like effect which draws more wealth to it, especially over time. Not in any mystical sense, just in the sense that humans follow patterns and the more you have the easier it is to get more. Doesn't always go that way but trends don't lie and wealth appears to concentrate over time. When violence and death happen, it breaks up to some degree, tension is relieved, and the cycle starts again. So we need a system which better accounts for that; obviously something better than pure communism or socialism, and if you think market forces will stop this effect you're hilarious. What's the system? No clue, I'm just a fuckwit on the internet.

Maybe we're getting there, maybe things are getting better over time. I'd say a good start where I live would be fighting the corruption which has overtaken my system of government.

Just some of the male privileges I've heard women complain about that they don't have access to: urinating standing up; reaching the top cupboard shelves without a stool; opening their own jars; when you're tired, going to bed without 20-30 minutes of prep work.

When we go to bed, the ability to shut our brains down immediately, and zonk right out, and not have to go through and replaying various conversations we've had that day as well as making sure we have mentally check marked everything that has to be done for the next day.
