I mean personally I fail to see the relevance WoW has here so /shrug I guess.

Shame the twitch prime freebie starter edition code only works for the Windows version, not the Mac version (I prefer to run OS X on my hackintosh). I'm loathe to boot to Windows unless I have to, and only do so for certain Steam games like FF XV or Star Ocean 4.
Phooey.

This is an A+/10 game and I recommend it wholeheartedly to everyone who wants a WoW style MMO with more things to do than just kill stuff. I keep two active accounts because WoW raids are just vastly superior but FFXIV is miles ahead in every single other aspect. Everything about it is really fun if you manage to get past the first couple extremely dull levels. And the community is super nice, though with many Wow refugees coming and taking over the Novice Network like a new Trade Chat things are getting a bit icky.
Heavensward is the first. Stormblood is the second. Shadowbringers is the one coming up.

1.0 player here too.
That game was just atrocious back then. When Yoshis team took over in I think 1.16 or w/e it started to slowly improve a tiny bit but there was no salvaging that version.
The way it ended though.... bloody hell that was the best cinematic in a video game ever in my opinion.

Except Blizz has literally sold all xpacs except for current for justbthe sub price since Legion, but yeah, act like SE is a pioneer on this concept.
It is a good move by SE, I’m not saying it’s not, but it’s literally something Blizz has done before and SE is still charging full price for base game.
This is the worst part about it to me. Since the zone chat channels are barely used and the only global chat channel (Novice Network) they have is by invitation only it makes it really hard to socialize with people as a new player or if you are in a low pop server. On the other hand no one bats an eye if you start conversation with them out of nowhere so if you do find someone it's not hard to make a new friend. The Gold Saucer is a good place for that, it's like a permanent Darkmoon Faire.

Let's calm the WoW vs FFXIV debate and pitting Square vs Blizzard. The two companies have had fun with each other on social media, so no need for us to pit them in a fight of who's better. The two companies, and their MMOs, are actually good for one another in a symbiotic competition relationship.
I've updated the original post with the press release regarding the NA availability and a little clarification on the expansions and their availability.
Woohoo! What a generous catch up campaign!
I just struggle with it, the raiding wasn't overly gripping. The dungeons felt fun though!
Might give it another go at some point in time, only played ARR + HS but pretty much stopped as soon as I level capped in HS, didn't have the sticking power
I think a good part of this though to be fair was just the lag was atrocious playing from the other side of the world.
Been playing FF14 on the PC for almost 2 months, got the full set, enjoying it immensely -- might get the starter edition for the PS4 and add this to it, still in ARR... no rush to get through the other expansions, so I can play this when over at my sister's while house sitting her place on the PS4 there.
One thing I hate about FF14 is that you cannot skip the story, especially the story from patches, such as 2.1, 2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 3.1, 3.2, 3.3, 3.4, 3.5, 4.1, 4.2, ...
For new player, this "side" stories can easily add to ten hours or more.
To put salt on the wound, you can pay real life $$$ to skip stories.
That's a large difference in the MMO design. Those patch stories aren't side stories. They're building the MSQ and many critical plot points start in those patches. They don't do everything wrapped up in the expansion and then a pre-patch suddenly sets up the entirety of the next expansion.
Heck, a character we met at level 20 something became a major character at the end of the next expansion who had critical impacts on the 3rd expansion.
Exactly.
And the story skip is £18.50. And a level boost is £18.50.
So that's £37 for a full boost and that's fairly cheap. Hell Scholar/Summoner gets the best value since whichever you boost you can do the 30-60 job quests of the other and basically have 2 jobs for the price of 1 and about an hour of work.
Ended up getting both the base game and heavensward for free through free twitch prime trial and this. I guess the best way to upgrade to stormblood is to just wait for shadowbringers and get it included for free? It kinda feels like there should be enough content for two months even without stormblood based on what I've read about the game.
