Name recognition gets you a bigger audience checking his latest work out. Now you don't only have Pokemon-fans coming in but a fraction of the Deadpool-fans who like Reynolds enough to buy a ticket for that movie too.

Wow, these pokemon walk the fine line between cute and nightmare-fuel. Nvm, some of them could pass as Eldritch horrors..

    I enjoyed it a lot.

The movie is a 6/10 for me, but just seeing the pokemons, seing how creative they got with their placement and Ryan Reynold as pikachu bump the score to an 8/10 easily.

The ending does make me worried about it's sequel (that has already been confirmed)

It's interesting how in some movies cgi looks like cgi and doesn't really fool anyone. Then you have movies like this that make you forget that these Pokemon aren't real. The cinematographer for the movie, who earned an oscar nomination for Gladiator, shot the whole thing on 35mm film and not digital. He also used real locations and not green screen. He said he wanted it to look like Blade Runner and by god there are some moments when that was exactly what I was thinking about. The look was amazing with rich colors and pokemon that looked seamless and natural.

Plot was simple but enjoyable. It was very entertaining which is all I really look for when I go see a movie in the theater. If I want arthouse, high brow stuff I'll go to places that show that or watch it at home. When I drop $15 to see something on the big screen I want fun. This movie is fun and beautiful.

The movie certainly isn't beautiful. Fun is subjective. (I think parts of it are fun and some parts are lame.)

But $15 is a lot for this kind of movie. I paid $6.99 a ticket to see it Matten-A. And that came with trading cards.

Should I open these bad boys up, or do you think selling them on ebay will give a nice reward?

Keep one and sell the other. Best of both worlds!

Looks good, I'm taking my niece next weekend. Already read the spoilers. Not like I was going to go for the story anyway, haha.

So I guess it's true then that the story is kind of garbage but the nostaliga keeps it up? That is at least what I got from the reviews.

I wonder if anyone has seen the German version, imo RR only works properly in the original, so I'm curious if I should even bother or wait until it's digital release? But then there is the fact that I only ever played the games in German back in the day and I have no idea about most english pokemon names. It's also too much of a pain in the ass to find an English showing in my region..

I can’t think of any parts of the story that were garbage the movie works from beginning to end even if it’s not a master piece.

Just saw it today. Story wrapped up nicely. Only one plot point that I was a bit confused about by the end, but the ending was quite heartwarming.

Overall I liked it. Although, I admit at times I was a bit overwhelmed by what was happening the screen, so I probably missed easter eggs and cameos/pokemon.
The market/food stall scene I couldn't watch at all because I cringe hard watching embarrassing situations.

He said in an interview he tried to do a Noir style detective voice and the director told him to just do Ryan Reynolds.

I wouldn't say the story is garbage. Its just a little bit predictable. IMO is definitely worth the watch if you were a fan, and even if you are not, it will pleasantly waste 1h30 min of your time.

    Loved it.

Was a really nice, wholesome movie. Plot was fun, nothing to write home about and simple to understand, with a couple of minor easily guessed twists for those over 10 years of age (people critiquing it need to realise it is a fricking KIDS film after all, not 'The Godfather'), and overall, was great fun. As a fan, it was genuinely emotional seeing it all come to life so beautifully.

And it did something I wish more films based on a loved subject would do. LITTLE OR NO EXPOSITION!
We *know* what fucking Pokemon *are*, we *know* the World, no need for exposition for the 3 people in the cinema who might not know, they aren't the intended audience, and they can ask a friend instead.

More films need to do this imho, as too much screen time is wasted on stuff literally 95% of the audience already know.
True. It was nice with Spiderman Homecoming to not get the first hour of "Uncle Ben dying" or flashbacks of it. It was just Pete and Aunt May.
Just don't reply to me. Please. If you can help it.

I guess that is fine then. Predictable was among the criticism I heard about, other were "not very detective", too many plot conveniences, plot doesn't really start unti 30% of the movie, ending is weird. Since It was part of my youth and it has ryan reynolds in it, I don't doubt it would be at least a pleasant time waster.

Still interested in some reports on the localization(s).

I'm not a fan of Pokemon at all, but I have to say I enjoyed the film a lot, it was fun and actually quite well done. Way better than I expected it to be.
    Camilla: You, sir, should unmask.
    Stranger: Indeed?
Cassilda: Indeed, it's time. We have all laid aside disguise but you.
    Stranger: I wear no mask.
Camilla: (Terrified, aside to Cassilda.) No mask? No mask!

It is really hard for Ryan Reynolds to work in any dubbed version, because that is not Ryan Reynolds anymore.
