Remembering the epic-ness and not so epic-ness of Classic

There was a level of epic-ness attained in Classic that started disappearing toward the end of BC and through Lich King and totally disappeared with Cataclysm. Here are some things I remember that were epic and not so epic in Classic:
    • Learning to hate murlocs in Elwynn Forest and anywhere else
    • Learning to hate harpies in Stonetalon and anywhere else
    • Learning that Barrens is HUGE and it’s a looonnnggg way to anywhere.
    • Soloing tough mobs at level like:
    o Hogger
    o Ol’ Sooty
    o Mor’ladim
    o The Stitches quest line
o The Panther in 1000 Needles
o The Nesingwary beasts quest line
    o Big alligator in Duskwallow
o Winterspring beasts quest line (this is not as tough as the others because you'll near L60, but the last tiger can still be tough)
    • Finding a piece of paper in the bottom of a boat and spending the next six days and ten levels following the quest line all over the world.
    • Finding wreckage in another little boat and going the length of Kalimdor for several days and levels following that quest line.
    • Finding out that escort quests are tough, even with a group.
    • Corpse hopping to Tabitha’s Cottage doing the mage quests.
    • Just finding Tabitha’s Cottage.
    • Going through tough mobs just to get to a dungeon entrance.
    • Learning that Horde has a real advantage with lower level dungeon locations.
    • True, they might be closer, but you still run forever.
    • Learning how Wailing Caverns got its name – from wailing players after spending three hours there and getting lost a half dozen times.
    • Finding the last bosses of SFK, Mara and Sunken Temple are the destroyers of all groups.
    • Finding there IS a last boss of BRD.
    • Raid Attunement quest lines.
    • Spending what seems like hours looking for Rexxar.
    • Seeing Rexxar all the time while questing.
    • Doing the Warlock pet, Warrior gear and Nat’s fishing quests on a PvP server. (or how to learn the true meanings of ganking and camping)
    • I can’t believe the Rogue class quests are so hard!
    • Running over to Azshara to do the L50 gear quest and dying many times. Who knew mobs could be so tough?
    • Wearing that L50 quest reward until BC because it’s so good.
    • MC’ing players off the chain and into the lava. (I loved doing this)
    • Learning how to drown doing the druid swim form quest. (you must time it perfectly)
    • Finding out your profession trainer is IN a dungeon.
    • Taming a rare pet. (there are only a two that I remember - lion in Mulgore and a cat in badlands. There are others, but they are not as good as these)
    • Getting a ghost sabre cat at L18.
    • Horde hunter getting a ghost sabre cat at L18. On a PvP server.
    • Low level Horde hunter taming a bird – truly epic!
    • Soloing into LBRS to tame the black dogs and learn the highest-level howl. (raiding hunters need this)
    • Going and learning new pet skills in higher level areas. You can’t use a pet so welcome to more corpse hopping.
    • Learning that corpse hopping is a method of travel.
    • LFG channel, how I’ve missed you.
    • Reading the insane discussion on the LFG channel and Barrens chat. Good or bad depending on your point of view.
    • Really long ghost runs back to dungeon.
    • Telling the tank to LOS the mobs in UBRS and get his back to a wall, he ignores you, and watch him get punted through the doorway, off the balcony and into the whelp eggs. 50 whelps then hatch to destroy the group. It’s funnier than LeeRoy. (this can still occur)
    • Starting every LBRS pull with an Ogre MC off a platform. (I really did this)
    • Using pets to tank dungeons. (Did this with two warlocks and no tank in RFK)
    • Alliance running out of quests around L30 and having to go to Desolace. Particularly on a PvP server.
    • Finding Desolace.
    • I can’t believe there’s no FP in Un’Goro!
    • Just about every quest mob in Un’Goro and Winterspring can be skinned.
    • Finding the iron fishing rod.
    • Selling that iron fishing rod for 50G.
    • Getting a staff that grants water breathing and realizing it is priceless.
    • Now, how does horde get to Gnomer? On a PvP server?!!
    • Leveling fishing the last bit to 300 takes forever!
    • The cooking trainers are WHERE?!! On a PvP server?!!
    • How many times it took to complete the first aid quest in Theramore and Hammerfell. (it seemed a little easier in Hammerfell)
    • Looking at Ragnaros through the crack in MC.
    • Let’s see what that elite slow walking pat drops in Stranglethorn and the slow walking elite group drops Loch Modan.
    • There’s a big dragon in Duskwood!
    • So much running.
    • Now, where is UBRS? You’re kidding. And you need a Key?!! They want HOW much just to unlock a door?!!
    • Aggroing the BRD bar.
    • Farming the flame boss in BRD and parts of Mara for fire and nature resist gear.
    • And then you find there is daily lockout on how many times you can run a dungeon.
    • Darkshore is so loonnngg!
    • Going from Duskwood to Swamp of Sorrows and getting killed by a L60 buzzard along the way.
    • Palladins have no ranged attack. See the quest line starting with wreckage in a little boat.
    • Rogues have no AOE attack. (neither do most others but they can at least multi-dot)
    • Getting Thunderbrew’s Boot Flask.
    • OMG! I have to respec to frost to raid and lose my fireball/instant pyro/fire blast insta-kill.
    • Spending 30 minutes making water and filling your bags before a raid.
    • Grinding Thorium Brotherhood rep on tough mobs to get a few recipes.
    • Finding all the quests and doing the dungeons to complete them all (Each has 4-6 quests each from all over and some quests are hard to find.)
    • Completing Mara, Sunken Temple and BRD marathons that kill every boss and finding parts of those dungeons you never knew existed. (very satisfying with a good group)
    • Now why did I roll a druid/pally/warlock and expect to raid?
    • Thankful the raids need 40 players after rolling a druid/pally/warlock and hoping they can’t find enough mages and rogues.
    • Can’t believe Blizz is really doing this.
    • Can’t believe I’m doing it all over again.

...am I the only vanilla player who never had a problem with murlocs anywhere in the game?

This is talking about MY perception and so to me it is A fact.

...reading over this post, OP, it seems like you never actually played vanilla and just watched youtube videos and read forum posts about it.

Horde had a quest that would teleport them from Booty Bay to Gnomer.

Soloing tough mobs at level like
None of those elite quests were soloable. Also Stitches does not have any quests associated with him.

Finding a piece of paper in the bottom of a boat and spending the next six days and ten levels following the quest line all over the world
You can complete that quest line in a few hours tops. "ten levels" ? The fuck are you talking about? You get it around level 45 and it never has you go to a zone higher than level 40. You only need to travel to 4 different places, IIRC.

Finding out that escort quests are tough, even with a group
No, they really aren't. Every escort quest can be easily completed with just 2 or 3 people. Some can even be solo'd depending on your class.

Finding the last bosses of SFK, Mara and Sunken Temple are the destroyers of all groups
....again, what? Arugal is not that hard. Neither is Princess. Eranikus however, yes that boss is fucking dumb because he banishes the tank and it can't be dispelled.

There's just so much blatantly false shit here.

This is just a really bad and significantly inaccurate copypasta list like so many others.

Nope. I don't remember having that much trouble with murlocs. They could be annoying when they ran away and pulled others, but I don't remember seeing that on anywhere near the same level that others apparently have.

I hated troggs more than anything as a dwarf player because of that one area south of Thelsamar that was overrun with them. Once you got deep into that valley, it was difficult to get back out because of how quickly they respawned. Some of the troggs you had to kill were in caves. So you fought through the valley, then got deep into a cave, and by the time you got far into the cave, everything behind you was respawned. So it was kind of a pain in the ass.
