So the Daily Beast just doxxed the guy who made the video.
So the Daily Beast just doxxed the guy who made the video.
After they found him and were going to publish a piece on him, I'm sure he wanted to try to explain himself.
"At first Brooks didn’t respond to emails, phone calls, text messages, Facebook messages and a direct message over Instagram, and he blocked this reporter on Twitter. On Friday he called back, explaining that he was worried over the prospect of being publicly linked to the video fakery."
the point Frenegade42 is making is that the media is lying by omission. Constantly. They are cutting out parts of videos and editing them to form a narrative that's false.
Sometimes they get called on it and then they exclaim their right to the 1st amendment is being violated. (i dont see how the constitution gives you the right to promote fake news)
It's sad that even though the video was clearly labelled as satire, nobody figured that out. It's also troubling that the daily beast decided to harass the owner and wouldn't let go until he called them back.
Also, Facebook is not required to monitor or delete every video that people deem as fake just because some people cannot tell the difference between an edited video and the real thing. They are a private company and have their own rules.
Maybe Mormo is just worried because Pelosi is showing signs of dementia and that is problematic for his party? who knows. Joe is also slurring his words in his speeches.
Regardless, I imagine we'll see more Trump parody videos but I won't get upset about them and demand they be taken down as fake news. I'll just laugh at them for what they are, comedy.
'Deem fake'? The video IS fake. Must really get you Trumpkins triggered knowing people don't have to edit video of Trump to make him look deranged, they just need to play the unedited footage.
The only person showing signs of dementia is your beloved Mango Manchild. His father died from complications of Alzheimer's, after all, so it's plausible that Trump is suffering its onset.

Obviously this video is fake. It was clearly labelled as satire and not actual footage of Skeletor.
This reminds me of the time when there was an obviously fake video of AOC. Allie Beth Stuckey Fake Interviewed her; The liberals couldn't tell the difference and pitched a hissy fit.
I guess it's only okay when it's orange man bad, and every other video needs a thread about it.
THIS is the fallacy that is currently plaguing the republic. All news is fake anyway, so who cares if authoritarians make fake news right? No, the New York Times didn't write fake news about politics. Making an occasional mistake is not the same thing, and the "lying by omission" argument falls apart in almost every case submitted to scrutiny. It usually turns out that the omitted details weren't relevant or didn't change anything, so it's a lazy criticism to throw at any piece of news that isn't infinite in length. After all, unless it contains all the knowledge of the universe, it's omitting details. Facebook has the power to delete fake news articles, as they should. The sad thing is that some people are now routing for Soviet-style propaganda that lies to them because they believe they've been brainwashed to distrust actual journalism.

Fake news is always bad. If Trump has convinced you that fake news is ok because it's "fair" to him, we're done as a republic.
that's moving the goalposts if I've ever seen them. In the examples I was talking about there is clear video evidence that the stories the left printed were false, and yet they continued to lie about them anyway since it fit their narrative. i.e the Covington kids case, the fish story with Trump and Abe etc. Even the story with Jussie gets more ridiculous but it worked because the media used it to further divide the country and cause chaos.
Of course fake news is bad, but comedic/satirical videos aren't a part of that. If you don't have a sense of humor to differentiate between the two of them that's a you problem.
Your examples are incredibly week. The Covington case was not false. I don't care that a couple hours before the incident, someone else was rude to them. Maybe there's a video that goes back another week and shows another party being rude to the Black Israelite activists?
I have no idea what the fish story you keep bringing up is, except that it's clearly not relevant to policy.
The Smollett case has nothing to do with inaccurate reporting.
The doctored Pelosi video was NOT presented as satire to the millions who saw it. Has nothing to do with a sense of humor and everything to do with fraud.
You're conflating stories you don't like with false stories.
Apparently you aren't able to differentiate between fake news stories and lies by omission.
The media ran with the story that the Covington kids were the ones harassing that native american veteran when video footage showed the opposite was true. To this day some media outlets still deny the fact that they were wrong and are pushing the narrative that the Covington kids are a bunch of racists because they stood there peacefully singing their school anthem.
Lying by omission - Abe dumped an entire box of Fish food into the koi pond but the media decided to cut out that part and only focus on Trump dumping an entire box into the pond. This makes Trump look crass or careless. Source https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/di...nese-koi-pond/
Smollett case - nobody bothered asking him any tough questions, and no journalist bothered to fact check his story when they interviewed him no matter how unbelievable it sounded because it fit their narrative. Every politician stated about how they believed him and condemned the attack as an modern day lynching. When they found out the story was made up, the politicians then backpedaled and said oh let's wait for all the facts to come in. Apparently it was a lynching, but now it's not?According to Robin Roberts (who interviewed Jussie) she says that she didn't want to upset her fans by being too hard on him. ( I guess the words investigative journalist) mean don't bother doing your job if it makes your fan base uncomfortable.
The original link to the video was clearly labelled as satire and as a fake. If you cannot make up your mind whether it's fake or not, that's on you. Are we going to star censoring every video that has anything to do with satire or politics? That is a slippery slope if I've ever seen one. I'm not surprised the left is against free speech, just saddened by it.

I'm gonna be one of the first people on the 'Private Companies that host video / media content get final say on what stays and goes' wagon, just like you can't walk into someone else's house and demand they throw out all the books you don't like. And I feel like the level of outrage is unwarranted given the context.
Once again, you did not name a single example of a false story. Pointing to an example of a mistake in a news story is not the same as fake news designed deliberately to deceive. Btw, being against fake news is not in the same universe as being against free speech. Circulating fake news is an authoritarian tactic designed to undermine a free society.
Also, keep in mind everyone who's ever done something wrong thinks the story was unfair to them, that there are more details that would make them look better.

Remember if you do something wrong and it gets reported, its the media's fault for reporting it.
Very well written post. All of those are legitimate issues that are worth discussing. For some reason the news focuses on character assassination and impeachment proceedings. We know that with the exception of fox, the mainstream media hates the president, but by focusing on issues that are basically worthless, they're going to hand the president the white house for another four years. By focusing on real issues like the ones you outlined, they could actually do work, but they won't. I don't know why, but that's material for another thread I guess.
It wasn't presented as satire. It was presented to the Trump cult as real because they needed to slander Nancy Pelosi because she's effective whereas Trump is incompetent and you don't have to doctor footage of Trump to make him look deranged; you just have to air the unedited footage.

Well see stared down Trump during the shutdown. Saving the country billions wasted on a wall.
H.R. 1, a bill that would, among other things, expand voting access and revamp ethics regulations, including requiring presidential candidates to release their tax documents. A public commitment to protecting voter rights is huge. The biggest bill since the VRA.
