France: Marine Le Pen ordered to stand trial for tweeting pictures of Isis killings

French far-right leader Marine Le Pen has been ordered to stand trial for tweeting pictures of Isis atrocities, including the beheading of American journalist James Foley.

A judge ruled the National Rally president must face a charge of circulating “violent messages that incite terrorism or pornography or seriously harm human dignity”.

She is also accused of a second offence related to the sharing of such content that can be viewed by children.

Ms Le Pen posted several graphic images of Isis killings in December 2015, a month after jihadists murdered 130 people in terror attacks in Paris.

If Marine Le Pen were an American politician, how far right would she be? Republican or democrat?

Isn't this a freedom of speech issue?

Man, that is downright Kafkaesque. A nation is beset by people that want the residents of the nation dead or forcibly converted and the crime is showing what that looks like in practice.

It is called Freedom of Expression in Europe

There are some restrictions that can apply in some cases.. for example "maintaining the authority and impartiality of the judiciary" comes up reasonably often with some whiny british hooligan

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Articl...n_Human_Rights

However i think it should be in this case

Not that i think it is wrong to assume that it could "incite terrorism" "or seriously harm human dignity".. i think it will, she will radicalize people (and she wants that)

I suppose ignoring reality will help somehow.

"A nation is beset..." nice scaremongering there.

I'm pretty sure they also stop ISIS and other terror organisations from using graphic images to recruit for their hate organisations, don't they?

She should not be in trouble with the government for such speech. This is a stupid trial.

That being said, she wants authoritarian government, and she gets it. When authoritarian, racist shitbags get a taste of the fascism they seek, the irony is enjoyable.

    Just about my stance here.

Anyone standing for Charlie Hebdo should consider standing for Le Pen... but damn, she made her bed.

It depends, is this one of those things where the city fines you for doing something bad, then you say "NO I'M NOT PAYING" so you have to go to trial so the city can get a formal judgement to legally collect the fine?

Or are they putting her on trial for posting wrong speak and threatening to put her in prison if found guilty?

I honestly couldn't tell you what the laws are in France for what she did. I'm simply enjoying the irony of an authoritarian asshat like her being the target of what she wants most.

Yes, I think people should stand up to defend her, and at the same time, condemn her for all the bullshit she wants to force onto others.

Imagine worrying about the counter-reaction to ISIS rather than fixing what caused ISIS. If you strike back at the counter-reaction to their extremism, you will only cause them to lash out at you as well. You're setting yourselves up for a splintered society rather than standing united against a force that would see all of you dead.

For the life of me, I can't understand why people are so unable to understand cause and effect. People like Le Pen and her party are a direct reaction to what's happening.

What's far right in Europe is not always so in America. I'd say you may be able to find Red State Democrats with similar rhetoric. You know, the ones that have to keep proving they're tough and half their campaign videos show them shooting their guns.

I do however think i should repeat (clarify?)

I think freedom of expression should apply here.

Very much this. Assuming you are somehow serious the only answer is far-right.
