Layer Abuse - An official response from Blizzard.

Very nice post by Blizzard. Totally owns all the "layering is destroying the game" ragers.

Also, going over all the trolling around the layering lately has removed the last thin layer (heh) of "nice Classic community" paint from all of this.
Turns out the pserver and Classic communities banging their war drums about this are extremely toxic and shitty.

Look at that the people who use their opinions and assumptions of what going as facts of reality are wrong?!

    It can’t be.

Its gonna be so nice to not have to use layering to be optimal anymore!

No, it doesn't destroy the "layering is destroying the game" ragers. There are plenty of reasons why layering is trash. I personally am so sick and tired of the layerspamming to get spawns, avoid PvP or even to gank.

We already knew that the Arcane crystal bank pic was fake btw. Blizzard "investigating" it gave precisely zero value.

Layering is fine. You literally would not have been able to play the game without it because the servers would not have been able to handle that many people in the initial zones. Can you imagine 40k+ ppl in a single zone on launch. I doubt you can actually, but it would have crashed the servers entirely for days if not weeks. It's not perfect, but it's far better than nothing. It will be removed when it is no longer necessary. Complainers will complain tho. Far be it from blizzard to actually want people to play the game on launch. You need to temper your "vanilla experience" expectations with the reality of the modern day.

If it wasn't a problem then why are they changing how it works to restrain it from being exploitable. The mining thing works especially in caves. Blizzard will never go out and say hey guys we fucked up on this layering thing. Instead they will do crowd control with preapproved messages coming from community managers telling us to not worry everything is going to be ok we will fix it.

    Its community manager 101.

Because they told us before launch that they would?

No they told you they would remove it completely after awhile. not change it to not be exploitable like the 10 man dungeon spam.

They also told us they'd be monitoring the situation closely and taking action (they described their toolbox) if required. As they did.

Before launch they specifically said they had strategies in place(like cooldowns between layer switching etc), in case players were excessively exploiting layering. None of this is new information.

and yet they are taking action against it. which means it is having enough of an impact to warrant action.

just like the pro changers who said classic would die without LFD, without modern conveniences, and that no one would play hybrids?

if layering is fine, why is blizzard taking action to restrict exploitation?

they should have taken action ahead of time. but its typical blizzard and the phrase "exploit early, exploit often" exists for a reason.

Just as they said they would from the very start.

they should have taken action before it became an issue. but typical blizzard. everyone pointed out how this could be done during beta.

They didn't say it isn't a problem...they said it's a smaller problem than people are making it out to be.

Because exploitation of layering is bad. Exploiting anything in the game is bad.

    There are no phases.
    10 is not a single-digit number.

So as said already numerous times - a smaller problem than people are making it out to be.
