    Need a laptop, $1,000 budget

    Hey guys/gals,

My boss is giving me a $1,000 budget to purchase a “work laptop” and I wanted the most bang for the buck. Any help would be much appreciated.

    Thank you!

What work do you do? Do you plan on sneaking in some games? If so, what games?

my work gave me a laptop with the following:

    Intel® Core™ i5-8350U processor, 6 MB, 1.7 GHz, up to 3.6 GHz
    16GB DDR4
    256 SSD

it has the Intel® UHD Graphics 620 GPU and it's bad at playing WoW on medium settings. The fan is almost always going while playing (basic questing).

I wish it had a Ryzen APU in it.

Does your work require anything beyond email/web browsing/Microsoft Office is what Temp is trying to figure out.

Because if you're an engineer you have VASTLY different needs than if you're a writer.

I would agree with Temp Boss, you will need to describe what you need in the machine.. is it requiring hard drive space, GPU/CPU for gaming/video editing, do you need a light and thin laptop with insane battery life, etc etc

    Please let us know

So you are not requiring anything but good CPU/GPU for gaming correct?

I would use the computer for work but for work I do not do anything besides email, and Excel. I’m trying to find a pretty good “gaming laptop” for around $1000

I guess for me, for a unit under 1k the one I linked is a decent choice/and new: https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/gami...op/gn3590dovds

Otherwise, brands to look at: ASUS is nice as well, but yeah personally I'd go with a brand you like OR go with a build your own like the dell gaming rig above (I own all ASUS machines because I always get super good black friday deals, they have insane specifications, and if you can hold out: Black Friday deals are incredible for tech)

So your boss is giving you money for a work laptop but you don't think it's important to mention what kind of work you do when purchasing a laptop for it?

    At a 1000 dollars I hope you got;

8GB ram, hopefully in dual channel.

A good 8th gen intel or the newer gen2 or gen3 AMD CPU like a 3500u

Nvme ssd 500gb, or at least 128

A long with a good build quality, ISP screen and not some horrid plastic feeling keyboard :P I need some travel on my laptop keyboard.
