Eh, I liked the odd song on Litourgya but there wasn't enough to hold my attention. I also quite like the odd Asagraum song. Gotta see where the new album is going.

@goriq The new Twilight Force is okay but it all feels a little too much on the cliche side of things; granted not that Twilight Force hasn't always been cliche.

Something else entirely... another Fates Warning related project: This time Ray Alder is releasing a solo album. If the single is an indication then it's pretty much what you'd expect from him. It's alright but I definitely prefer Arch/Matheos.

Mea culpa: I may have dismissed the Dutch unjustly, TRTBFD is a second most enthralling counterexample. On another note, I find Imber's vocals commendable and endearing; another strong point of the excellent MSG. Good female voices, as rare as precious commodities of the black metal trade.
    1. Tornmód ‎– Fullmoon Misanthropy.
    2. Mürmurio - Demo I.
    3. Blood Tyrant - The Realm That Brings Forth Death.
    4. Scargzlot - Wolf's Atonement.
    5. Through the Spatial Dimensions - Through the Spatial Dimensions.
    6. Tyhjä - Tästä kuolevasta maailmasta.
    7. Tenebrae in Perpetuum - Anorexia obscura.
    8. Aludra - Mass Stellar Graves.

Lastly, a couple of dungeon synth suggestions:
    1. Tir - Urd, Skuld & Verdandi.
    2. Ururdhagaz - Någonstans i en Tid...

Heads-up: Age of Excuse has just been released. Not quite my flavor of deviance, but it's enjoyable nonetheless.

    It's up.

More of the same, the quality hasn't abated at all, probably their second best record. I mean, it has big fucking drums and big fucking riffs, what's not to like?

Demon Hunter is great. Been around since 2004 I believe. Just released a double album called War & Peace.

After first listen I thought it was great, and after several more listens I still think it's great. Killer riffs.

The new Cloud Rat may well be in the running for most beautiful production / mix of the year, tbh.

For those who like epic/doom heavy metal, the new Crypt Sermon is great.

..and the Atlantean Kodex new album is also pretty awesome.

Underground and preferably raw, just the way I like 'em. Listen to LDS for an example of enjoyable liturgical black metal.
    1. Coágulo - Coagulation Times.
    2. Ergerlig - Virulent Hag.
    3. Inferno Requiem - Shanhai.
    4. Void Wraith - I.
    5. Les derniers Sacrements - Cérémonie complète (Ceci est son Sang).
    6. Ezkaton - Sheen and Misery.
    7. Ceremonial Crypt Desecration - Lupine Sacrilege Adorned in Rotting Flesh.
    8. The Ember, The Ash - Consciousness Torn from the Void.

With the latest Asagraum out, go ahead and convince me that it wasn't overhyped out of the Solar System. I'm grinning in anticipation.

I rise from my slumber to flail eagerly about the new Cult of Luna that dropped today!

September has been fucking amazing so far.

This slays. Doesn't reinvent the wheel but the songwriting and production are phenomenal. Top band in the genre by miles.

Memoria Vetusta II with some albeit undertoned psychedelic elements, I wish it were more expansive but the base black metal is stellar

This is probably better than the new Deathspell Omega as far as dissonant black metal goes, and that really isn't an easy task to achieve. There's so much energy and noteworthy stuff packed in 40 minutes, goddamn.

Punky Darkthrone with riffs up the wazoo, highly recommended.

Almost as good as their debut, which is one of the defining prog metal albums of the 21st century. Stellar record.

Candlemass-y riffblasting mayhem, essential for any doom metal fan.

Absolutely packed and crushing death metal, probably the best album in that genre this year together with Tomb Mold and Krypts.

Big sluuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuudge riffs under a black metal canopy

    New Discordance Axis

New Mgla, Cloud Rat and Atlantean Kodex albums were all also very good btw.

I've liked Serpent Column too, for what it's worth. Not particularly impressed by Asagram, Blut aus Nord, Mgła.

The new round of suggestions comes with a tutorial on how to make me listen to death metal, namely Estrangement. Add symphonic elements, blacken it here and there, voilà.
    1. Nära Livet - Nuit en deuil.
    2. Scür - Nel mund dìj mort.
    3. Ancient Moon - Benedictus Diabolica, Gloria Patri.
    4. Daydream Flights - Whisper.
    5. Kalt || Weiss - Serotonin.
    6. Diabolical Raw - Estrangement.
