A federal judge forced the Justice Department today to compare proceedings during Watergate to the impeachment inquiry into President Trump.

Judge Beryl Howell grilled House and Justice Department lawyers on the current inquiry for more than two hours. The hearing was set to focus on grand jury secrets in the report by special counsel Robert Mueller, but Howell has asked several pointed questions about the parameters of the current impeachment probe.

At one point, Howell cut off a Justice Department lawyer arguing the administration could withhold grand jury secrets from Congress.

She then brought up Judge John Sirica, who became one of President Richard Nixon’s greatest foils during Watergate. Sirica had ruled to give a secret grand jury report to Congress as it investigated Nixon. Its release bolstered impeachment so much it was called the “Watergate roadmap.”

Howell asked twice, “Was former Judge Sirica wrong?"

Justice Department attorney Elizabeth Shapiro said the Nixon-era judge wasn’t wrong at the time, but the Watergate grand jury decision by the court may have resulted differently today.

Howell responded to Shapiro, saying, "Wow."

"The Department (of Justice) is taking an extraordinary position in this case," Howell said.

What this hearing is all about: This hearing has covered many of the legal questions that the House and White House are fighting over this week as the Ukraine impeachment inquiry moves forward.

The Wall Street Journal reported in May 2014 that the two had joined Burisma as board members. That role is different from "boss" or "executive," as Trump has claimed in separate tweets about the photo of Archer. Board members are not typically involved in day-to-day operations of a company.

While Joe Biden was vice president, firms run by his son and Archer "pursued business with international entities that had a stake in American foreign policy decisions, sometimes in countries where connections implied political influence and protection," the New York Times reported in May.

The fourth man in the photo that Trump tweeted is Ralph Pascucci, founder of Netrex Capital Markets LLC, a New York investment banking firm. He is also a principal of Sebonack Golf Club in Southampton, N.Y., where the Bidens spent a week in August 2014.

You'd think that threatening to murder people who call for government transparency would be a red line for "conservatives" these days.

It's not.

We now know that the line is not sexual assault. We know it's not at calls for violence. We know it's not thrice seeking assistance from foreign governments to attack political rivals. We know it's not being a peeping Tom on underage girls. We know it's being a racist piece of shit.

I genuinely do not believe that line exists. Just like Dutarte's supporters, just like Hitlers, just like the Leninists and Maoists we have running around... there is no line.

It's why I simply consider everyone I know who still supports Trump to be... gone. They are not dead to me, simply people who have passed through my life, and are no longer part of it. I don't have the energy to hate them, I merely think of them as no longer being a part of my life. My mother is gone, and she's not coming back. My kids will likely never see her, again. One of my best friends, he's also gone. They are not coming back.
