I understand that useless people who do nothing but complain about the "liberals" like to believe that they can just bury their heads in sand and ignore problems until they go away. But reality doesn't work like that. If we can better understand the psychology of pedophilia, it would probably go a long way to reducing its impact on actual children. If pedophilia is something akin to an orientation, and it is approached in a similar manner, then those who struggle with that sort of attraction can get help/counseling/whatever without the stigma...before they turn that attraction into raping (or otherwise victimizing) children.

Ideally, all adults, regardless on whether they've committed the crime or not who are sexually attracted to children should be reprogrammed if we get to that point. Mere sexual attraction to a 10 year old is disgusting and should not be tolerated. Just because they have not offended does not make it "ok". And yes, before someone complains I am advocating for "thought crimes", understand there ARE exceptions to everything. Thought crimes are generally bad, but there are exceptions.

First step would be to stop demonizing people to the point they don't even seek therapy to deal with their urges. We currently live in a society that castigates them to the point of never seeking help thereby leading to even more harm to children.

It is not 100% effective, as it depends on why they are doing it. It does for those who have a biological sexual urge being attracted to young kids. The recurrence abuse rate for those who have been castrated, physically and chemically is about 5%.
