I've always assumed it's because enchanted armor and weapons are just as effective at fighting/going against firearms and such. It's a weird alt history where the world of Azeroth wouldnt follow the same technological progression as real life.

Why invent a transistor when a magic little crystal does the same thing?

Mhm? https://wow.gamepedia.com/Flying_Machine_(Warcraft_III) "Flak Cannons". Those were, litteral anti-aircraft gattling guns.

You do know that shields are able to stop bullets? It all depends on materials, and if you have strong enough warrior to lift a 10cm deep steel slab there is no way firearms going to pen it, then this giant wall of metal moves towards you. Even in less fantasy settings, like, real life, you have ballistic shields that can take shots from most modern firearm.

Anyways, it all depends on imaginary physics and engineering, granted similar materials and "enhancements" it's totally possible to create both shields/armour that can take shots, and guns/ammo that can penetrate it. Then you have stats of a user, a warrior that feels no fatigue and strong enough to actually wear this armour and shield, a gunner who barely can affect his weapon besides aiming it good, or a magic user whose power is limited by imagination of setting-writers

Hell, even a shield made of boiled leather can stop a bullet

Yeah, but then you have some fel-infused enchanted with arcane magic gunpowder and barrel that can withstand explosion of this magnitude and ammo that won't shatter upon explosion, engineered in a way to conserve as much of this force and apply as much of this force as possible to smallest area at best angle for penetration.

In a fantasy setting everything is possible

Rule of cool > lore doesn't matter if it came from the RTS. In every book and comic guns are never shown to be advanced farther than flintlocks.

Same thing for Draenei tech its rule of cool showing up but blizz wants the tech level to remain static so its hardly ever seen again and never mentioned in books or comics.

    also... dead zones.

    1). It’s a game. Forget logic.
2). If you want references, look to things such as Warhammer, Sword Art Online, Fate, Fallout games, Final Fantasy, and a time plethora of other sources for sword and shield mixed with guns and siege weaponry.
    3). It’s a game.

A gnome was turned into a robot in the latest comic.

Picking and choosing what lore you want to consider canon isn't going to get you far in any discussion.

Any time things like guns, explosives, or any sort of machine are mentioned in WoW, it's mentioned with awe, shock, or skepticism by races other than Gnomes, Goblins, Dwarves, or the Mag'har. Technology is somewhat of a rare thing for most races.

Then, there is magical technology, which is far more common, found with most other races. Draenei use this with Vigilants and defense pylons. Nightborne use this with their constructs. Most Titanic creations are magical machines, like the original Mechagnomes and their Forges/Engines. Dark Iron Golems are functional because of the runes they use. Mogu technology, like Blood Golems, are operational through magic of different types. Many different races use different types of Necromancy to operate otherwise technological devices, like Zandalari Golems, the aforementioned Vigilants, Terracotta Warriors, Legion portals and ships, etc.

On top of all that, in lore most weapons are magical or technological in nature. They aren't just swords, they're enchanted swords. They aren't just staves, they're magical staves, or they collect souls, or they have blood of a Titanic Watcher in them. Shields, in lore, are enchanted to withstand more blows or reflect damage to the person that dealt the blow in the first place.

Even in Boralus Harbor Emily Fairweather says:
The strongest warrior is nothing without his magical armor and weapons. Learn enchanting!
Different spellcasters themselves can do different things as well. Nightborne can control time - Margaux claimed it was "their birthright" to use it as they please (like something as mundane as aging wine in Suramar). Not much bullets can do against time magic. Necromancers and Warlocks can summon hordes of enemies to take down whoever they want. Shamans can make shields of stone, direct lightning, conjure lava, heal with water, or summon elementals. Priests can use the Light or Void to heal, damage, drive people insane, and break minds. Swords and guns can't really help against a person being driven insane by the whispers of the Void, and they can't do much against a shield made of Light.

The list goes on and on. In the end, all types of weapons, magic, and technology are valid for different reasons at different points in the story. Machine guns and cannons are devastating - in ICC in the gunship battle all it took was a frost mage freezing the cannons to stop them. Shamans could also fry a lot of technology with lightning. Magic users can become fatigued in lore when they use too much magic. Warriors themselves can't do much against magic without an enchanted weapon of some kind. It's like rock-paper-scissors.
3 hints to surviving MMO-C forums:
1.) If you have an opinion, someone will say that it is wrong
2.) If you have a source, there will be people who refuse to believe it
3.) If you use logic, it will be largely ignored
btw: Spires of Arak = Arakkoa.

Thats Titan Tech that only kinda works cause the Mecha Gnomes dont understand it fully. They didn't create the device nor do they fully understand it.

And its not me picking and choosing Blizz themselves have said that advanced tech does not exist in lore the way it does in game.

In One piece, gun users can infuse Haki into their bullets to be able to harm devil fruit users that normally wouldn't be hurt by bullets because they can turn into lava/fire/rubber etc. Can be similar to that. Or like in naruto where they put chakra on their thrown kunai for extra power. Magic would put a penetrative layer of magic on the bullet.

It just feels like the amount of things Blizzard has added to this game, makes no sense to see a person with sword and shield in the frontlines anymore.
For one thing, you are thinking waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too hard about this. It's a fantasy game.

But if you want a serious answer, it's probably this.

All siege vehicles, navy vessels, and air ships cost a shit ton of resources and money to produce. Let's say it
takes 100 engineers to produce one tank. You could take the same number as blacksmiths, and each one
can fully equip 10 warriors each. Simple math and numbers there.

Despite their power, these vehicles are also much more restricted in terms of combat. A sea vessel is only
good at sea, and their siege capability is limited. Siege tanks can't navigate through muddy terrain, swamp
lands or through frozen areas. They aren't great at water either.

Air ships are great, but they're useless in areas with heavy forests that provide cover, or in locations with
very unsuitable winds and stormy weather.

But soldiers? You can send properly equipped soldiers en masse to any location. It's why despite how we
have orbital satellites and tanks and shit, the army still NEEDS soldiers to fight in areas these large
    vehicles can't fight in.

Protective Wards and healing magic aren't infallible. They vary greatly depending on who is casting, and
not every Tom, Dick, and Jane is Anduin, Jaina, or Velen. With enough force, a barrier or ward can break,
and all magic requires stamina. A caster's ability to heal is only going to last as long as their stamina can.
And they can't heal everything. They can heal cuts, bruises, broken bones, and some serious stabs with
sufficient time. But they can't insta-heal a severed limb or head. Or resurrect someone like in the game.

All guns are single fire weapons. No one has any repeated automatic firearms. There are machine guns
sure, but they seem to always be attached to vehicles. Most likely this is because said weapons are too
heavy to carry for a soldier, impractical, and too expensive to mass produce.

Furthermore, swords and shields are capable of being magically augmented. So those bullets you're
thinking of aren't that much of a threat when they can't pierce the shield. Same for armor.

And yes, the humans/humanoids in WoW are all capable of superhuman agility, reflexes, etc. That's
how you have Rogues and Monks use all those crazy rapid attacks, or how Warriors can cause cracks
in the ground by stomping on it (and not destroying their foot as a result), etc.

It's a Fantasy game. Seriously dude.
