What an absolute idiotic notion.
Best you found to complain about? I'm just glad that nearly 3 months into its release, classic is still full steam ahead and my server is absolutely brimming with players.
But yea, you keep on complaining about how a handful of servers still have layers.
sigh.
Oh, and 'technically', p2 didn't even launch yet, so it just makes your thread even dumber. But hey, what to expect from a throwaway, new account, uh?
i think the classic devs will have the balls to just straight up disable layers and have people suffer queues until they use free xfers come phase 2.
Classic paranoid private server community complaining about layers in phase 2 long before phase 2 is even out.
1. Classic SERVER's were planed with optional stages of expansion
2. WoW tourists and a hard decline in users were expected
3. The real hardware capacity is masked behind a multiple time changed metric (STATUS) that is basicly different for every server and layering on top of that.
Blizzard posted about the expected decline in classics usernumbers, the servers are still layered and on "FULL". Is it really that hard to figure out, that they simply lowered the server cap to keep the maintenance costs low?
If your server got still a login queue, even after the tourists are gone? Tough luck, thats the price you pay for beeing a minority of the playerbase.

Crazy how ppl still dont understand this and swear that layering has nothing to do with server caps. "But bro! This isnt 15 years ago, the servers are bigger and better now!!!" No shit, but that doesn't mean they arent artificially capping the server so you actually have a somewhat decent time playing instead of fitting 10k+ into a world meant for ~3k.
They announced that they were doing this hours ago, people just aren't paying attention

Load increases exponentially with more players in the same area, when splitting them into layers it's closer to linear. Total capacity with a given server is much lower without layering so queues will be popcorn time for those people that refused to transfer onto reasonable population realms.
That was the hope, not the gurantee. Even with all of Blizzards statistics and analysis they can't perfectly predict how many people will join a server and the rate at which people leave. It's pretty close to almost no layers as of now tho, so they are definitely close to reaching that goal. Guess we are at the point where Blizzard not being able to perfectly predict the future is an actual complaint.
edit: of hey, look at that, all realms will be on one layer starting Tuesday (phase 2).

Tuesday, 12 November – All Realms to One Layer
With restarts at 3:00 a.m. CET on Tuesday, all WoW Classic realms will be set to a single-layer. We expect some realms listed above to experience long queues after this step. We especially encourage players on Firemaw , Flamegor , Gehennas , Golemagg , Lucifron , Mograine , Sulfuron , and Venoxis to use the Free Character Move service to avoid excessive queues.
Thursday, 14 November – PVP Honor System and World Bosses
At 8:00 p.m. CET on Thursday, the update will occur for all realms in this region. The PvP Honor system will come online, and it will become possible for Azuregos and Kazzak to spawn.
So as of an hour ago they disabled layering on my full layered server, currently with a login queue of 1800 which roughly means ~30 minute waiting time. I can imagine tomorrow on wednesday or on the weekends we are looking at 1-2h queues.
Was some fighting in OG today. Alliance just for fun went there with only 1 raid + maybe 10 tag alongs to test the capabilities of the server tech.
One of them being in a top guild and streamed so word spread of an incoming "raid", naturally 3 horde raids were waiting. Add to that the usual lowbees, bankalts etc in the vicinity.
Alliance did not even reach the main gate before everyone was frozen in lag. It took people 2+ mins from starting to press the resurrect key after they died untill they "sort of ressurected". They ressed then insta-died due to whatever AoE was being used around them at the time of ressurect.
Game masters stepped in and just threw them all out of the city. Players could not control their chars for minutes and minutes due to the lag.
It was permafrost.

But soon after Mr Xi secured a third term, Apple released a new version of the feature in China, limiting its scope. Now Chinese users of iPhones and other Apple devices are restricted to a 10-minute window when receiving files from people who are not listed as a contact. After 10 minutes, users can only receive files from contacts.
Apple did not explain why the update was first introduced in China, but over the years, the tech giant has been criticised for appeasing Beijing.
Closing this since layers have been removed.
