Can it be "outdated" content if you have not done it?
My go to thinking is, that every expansion is an addition of content (it literally expands the game) It may not be relevant due to the power scaling. But if you did not do the contnet it's not outdated. It's placed within that zone and content cycle. If you wanna get the goodies and story of e.g Draenor you grind and play as everyone else did. If you don't want to, nobody forces you to.
It's as simple as "you play, you unlock you progress" Just because it was released years ago does not change that it's not relevent to the content or zone it's placed in.
Hello fellow casual player. I feel you tho my breaks were not as severe as yours and all were during current expansion so I dodn't have the need to catch up on previous expansion. Tho I was slacking behind several times, with BfA as a prime example, so speaking from experience.
I'm an altoholic so having flying available is no brainer for me. In Draenor I cruised several alts along the main and it didn't work out. In Legion I focused on main and while slowly grinding time gated flying unlock I leveled several alts. In BfA I played main till max, then took a break around when Pathfinder part II was introduced. So when I came back half of the server was already airborne and me lacking almost everything.
As an altoholic I refused to level another alt through whole of BfA without flying. I did what devs wanted - roamed each and every zone on foot, admired every nook and cranny, encountered encounteres and treasured the treasures. With alts I want quick and fast go, drop, done and hand in. So I left all my alts and focused primarily on main.
wowhead.com/flying is a nice tool to track your progress with flying and allied races unlocks. Load your character and see what's missing. Majority of it is easy to get, the biggest PITA are reputations and campaign - certain parts are hidden beyond rep thresholds so in the end it all comes down to rep farming. Which without flying is tedious.
What I did - pay attention to emissaries. 1500 rep for final hand in + all rep gathered while doing emissary is really nice boost that may shorten your journey. Flying and allied race unlock can go along - all factions are needed at revered for flying anyway, allied races just need that final push. Focus on flying unlock, majority of allied race unlock comes with it.
Mechagon I found easier to get than Nazjatar - because there is no Mechagon emisssary but you have daily switching objective that grant you 1500 rep (one day it's few chests opened, other is killing few rares). Just go there, do what's needed for "daily emissary" along with handful of other regular dailies and be done. It goes fast, faster than I really expected.
Don’t ask me to explain my idiocy; I’m in my early 40’s and still don’t understand it myself.
"How do I tackle content?"
Um...do it?
Or don't. There is a choice here.
"Auto-correct is my worst enema."
Depends there were some who were upset that it wasn't useful for leveling and then they made it so if you bought flying it worked in MoP at 85 instead of 90. Right now I'd much rather just play the game, farm whatever rep is needed on my main and do the storyline to unlock pathfinder instead of paying a fee. Reason being is Pathfinder unlocks account wide and if they sold flight it'd be roughly 5k. If you play 1 toon only then either way wouldn't matter, but most people have alts so that saves gold overall. Plus I don't have to remember to go buy flight each time and I can use it immediately (even if below the level for that area).
I agree with this. Content isn't ever really "outdated" as it is always available, trivial maybe, but not outdated. People don't ask for games that were released 2-5 years ago that they pick up today to be nerfed and adjusted for them because it's "outdated" so why should this be any different? It's still relevant to the story in some way.
Buying flying on each toon is slightly different than going through it for every expansion. It's like buying riding training. Though I wouldn't mind seeing base (slow version) of ground and flight be automatically unlocked account wide if you have any version of them. Then you pay for the speed increases.
1 hour a day for 100 days... not alot if you are playing an MMO.
On a side not, OP is a troll post and got most of you. It wouldn't surprise me if its the guy from this post on a different account

The same as everyone else. One day at a time.
"May the way of the Hero lead to the Triforce"
"May the Goddess smile upon you."
"Hero", is what they've all been saying. This world, it isn't worth the saving."

Because he posted 3 times, enough to get some people worked up and moved on, now we are 6-7 pages deep on a post he has 3 posts on. That is a W for most trolls and exactly what they are after. You have been on this board as long as I have to see it, especially being a mod. If he's not a troll he got his answer and moved on.
Eh, I'm not looking at it from that perspective. Some people just drop interest in their post (I'm bad at this as well where I'll create a topic, answer it a few times and let it slip into the void). Plus on my end its only showing 3 pages, but either way its still a topic that is very legitimate and definitely asked a lot by all types of people so that doesn't make it a trolling type thread. Typically troll type threads, from my point of view, try to get peopled riled up and stuff where this hasn't. I mean if the posters intention was troll then and they felt like they succeeded then good for them I guess? It is just that the topic is a commonly asked one, in my opinion.
Same way someone would if they wanted to watch season 6 of a show.
They'd watch seasons 1-5 first ...
Challenge Mode : Play WoW like my disability has me play:
You will need two people, Brian MUST use the mouse for movement/looking and John MUST use the keyboard for casting, attacking, healing etc.
Briand and John share the same goal, same intentions - but they can't talk to each other, however they can react to each other's in game activities.
Now see how far Brian and John get in WoW.
Just do a little bit at a time. When I wanted to get my pathfinder and essences up I just made sure to work towards it a bit each day. Took a month or so but I was pretty lazy.
