If its been refuted multiple times and keeps being repeated by the same actors, then what? Because they don't get infracted for knowingly repeating false statements, which is the very definition of a lie.

It isn't calling names, it calling a lie a lie. Whether the person knows it or not, what they said is a lie.

The argument that past presidents have done worse things so we shouldn't hold this one to account for his crimes is even more ridiculous and absurd.

You don't get it! It's the perfect defense that everyone can use it. When I kill someone on purpose I can just talk about how others in the past have killed over a dozen and ate them. With that line of thinking no one can ever do anything wrong until they go for the high score.

When somebody is moving from point A to point B using his legs, at this point he is walking. You could call them a walker.

When somebody repeats a refuted falsehood, they are lying. You call them a liar.

Most of posts here are people's opinions - opinions that are generally shaped by external sources (which are used to support their viewpoints). Noone can have their own expert knowledge about everything.

If you want to refute, you have to make honest effort - show contradictions, present counter-arguments, not just call them liars even when they can honestly believe what they are saying based on what they know from media outlets they frequent.

This is the real question--why it's somehow destructive to the discussion to call behavior what it actually is and has been thoroughly demonstrated to be, but not to engage in the behavior (lying, trolling, or both) that warrants it, and that is deliberately meant to stall and obfuscate rather than propel and clarify the conversation. I appreciate the point Flarelaine was making earlier, as one who is firmly on the side of "don't feed," but it's frustrating to have a mod acknowledge they know it's trolling, while also (being one among many) not doing anything about it, while also watching completely unwarranted infractions go out...

Debating an informed opinion is what we are all wanting, but what we have is a concentrated effort by certain people who sow disinformation and hide behind technicalities. And it's not just people who purposely spread disinformation either, I'm friends with quite a few people in real life who would rather believe "alternative facts" than "fake news." They believe things like Hillary is the mother of ISIS or Obama was working for Iran.

You can only refute falsehoods for so long until you have to tell a person "you're a fucking idiot." It's not nice and I don't want to do it, but the longer these shenanigans go on the longer we're distracted from real things. I'm sure some want that, but those of us who want honesty are sick of it.

Honestly if the squad and Twitterverse signaled she could get away with just spiking the whole thing now on the dubious claim that the 99 template is now unjustly biased, she would. The Senate in the mean time can just ignore her if it wishes or, alternately, change its rules to set a timeline by which it will wait for the House to proceed before just taking the articles up for default judgment. Really up to them at this point.

This is just silly how you can get infracted for rightfully calling out BS. If someone lies, they are a liar. If someone steals, they are a thief. It's how things are. But apparently feelings before facts, right?

Now back to regularly scheduled programming. To me, the killing of Soleimani is just the classic wag-the-dog the resident has been doing since he's in office. When he is knee-deep of garbage, he wants to turn our attention to something else. Telling people at his resort about the upcoming killing is one case of potentially helping his people with a possible insider trading situation and with more news of his true intentions of withholding air to Ukraine being uncovered in emails gives Pelosi no reason to rush the articles of impeachment to the Senate. Again, why is he keeping the truth from being told? Isn't that what guilty people do? But can you imagine, him being impeached twice? Is that what winning is like? Because he would be winning in that category, for sure.
