If by "Main faction" you mean protagonist, I think it depends on the expansion entirely. BFA for example the Alliance are the obvious protagonists, being joined later by Horde Rebels.

You could look at it two ways honestly.
From what I've been reading it's been this way.

From a more fleshed out story aspect you could say Horde.
From a "winning" aspect you could say Alliance.

  4. #64
The Alliance, no doubt. They are the protagonists of the overall story with the most hero power and screentime. Last time the Horde had their big moment was in Cataclysm with Thrall aiding the dragon aspects. Any time else we were just the meat to beat for Blizzard as either the antagonist for the Alliance when no big evil is around, or cannibalizing ourselves until our faction becomes too broken and scattered to function properly. See BfA. Muh Orcs and friends fans haven't realized it yet(thanks to the gameplay gifts), but as a faction for any plot or the bigger lore picture. The Horde, and all their relevance, officially died with Patch 8.2.5.

The Horde exists only to be the villians for the Alliance. Legion - The Horde might well have never existed. BfA, we play the role that the Legion did in the patch before for the Alliance heroes to defeath.

I'd say the Horde is the main faction of the story with the Alliance as their side kicks.
Neither, each faction has their time to shine.
the main faction of the story is the people of azeroth, the one true faction.

Then boy have they achieved epic failure.
I think that is what happened. They decided to be "edgy" and make the Horde villians. So they used the same plot they always do. Just like in Legion, Evil (the Horde) strikes first in a win that make the heroes (the Alliance) struggle to overcome great odds to save the world. I mean, that is why they did in Legion and that is why they always do.
    But...
    a) They didn't understand how much Alliance players would hate loosing Teldrasil.
    b) They didn't understand that Horde players are sick of the villian bat and that being villians in their own story sucks, even if they get to switch over to the heroic Alliance side later.
    c) They couldn't come up wiht a new plot, to they repeated MoP.

I mean, all this was foreseeable. They were just to much out of touch, too full of themselves, to understand.

Hero power that is never used or used as a quick asspull “solution” to some problem Blizz created by pandering to the Horde. And yeah Horde is quite often a bad guy... but have you ever considered that Blizz see that as a “badass” thing and does not condemn it? Or rather, only give it a slap on a wrist and sometimes a stern talking to.

Idk. Horde players loved Burning of Teldrassil, they just hated the consequences.

The story is about the Orcs and their connection to demons and all of that coming to the human world. Alliance are mostly tools to develop the horde story, they are supporting characters to make things interesting but we're very clearly following the adventure of the Horde. It literally does not matter which side gets more "wins", that's not what being the main character is about. Did you think Aragorn was the main character of LOTR because he killed more orcs than Frodo? Please.

The Horde is way more interesting but in return they get a racial leader killed once every 2 years
This world don't give us nothing. It be our lot to suffer... and our duty to fight back.

"Idk. Horde players loved Burning of Teldrassil, they just hated the consequences."

Ah, the usual Alliance players telling us how much we liked stuff. Funny how it always seems to fit they narrative _they_ want.

Meanwhile the Alliance has its races getting genocided and losing entire territories. I guess that's the return for.. not being the main faction?

So you're going to continue ignoring all the cheering and jokes about Elven barbecues that were all over the web, including this forum?

And oh yes, we definitely wanted a story where the Horde destroys yet another of our cities, massacres our civilians, and we look like chumps for letting it go. /waistdeepsarcasm

Things typically favor the Horde...races get more development...racials are better...more diversity in races and mounts...expansions that practically center around them...racial leaders who aren't just clones of the head honcho...only major city destroyed was because of them, not their enemy

Heck there probably wouldn't even be a Warcraft without the Horde...

Firstly. Stop telling horde players what they liked or disliked about anything. You didn't ask the community so you don't know anything about what they really thought about it.

Second. Look up how story screen writing works. A plot for a fairytale fantasy is driven by the characters and the world around them. Not getting gameplay goodies nor just existing for the sake of the play. That criteria applies mostly to the alliance because it is their pov blizzard focuses on. Not how much they use their awesome powers.

Jaina, Anduin, Tirion, Velen, Khadgar, Bolvar, Tyrande, Genn. And to a little degree Thrall. Those are protagonists of the multiple pov story blizzard is telling. And no. Sylvanas doesen't count. Because she is the antagonist for everyone. Just like Garrosh and Arthas were. So get your head out of your booty for once. Because having debates with you are becoming unnerving.

Pretty much this. I really don't know why the Admins keep allowing some players throwing around accusation like that without backup. It's awfully toxic.

    None. Both are.

One just absorbs all the bad things, while the other one keeps doing them.

First - i saw forums nearly bursting at the seams with gloating, shitty jokes and all those Horde posters going ham on Alliance and night elfs in general which btw added to the problem because when you had your fun and simmered down gradually you forgot that those you insulted and angered werent that easy to stop from complaining so you turned on them in indignation and told them to “stop whining” and “stop accusing us”. Disgusting actually. Where were you back then? Why didnt you told other horde players to stop with toxicity and hatred? Why didnt you stop yourself from participating? Or all those “hah genociding forest hippies was great fun” posts were actually made by Alliance alts?
Second - Sylvanas is literally a second coming of Kerrigan so she is a protagonist who for a short time made an antagonist only to make a “subversion” in the end. Blizzard dont treat Horde as “evil wretches” they treat them as that “badass metal chads” and Alliance are relegated to the roles of morally white idiots who always turn another cheek and show no balls so Horde would look even more badass in comparison. And yes, Saurfang stopping Horde from beating the crap out of Alliance is exactly that - a bully standing up for a whimp and then telling other bullies to stop to show how stronk he is.

Imho getting your racial leader killed is less humiliating then being defanged, declawed and narratively castrated.

Well, there can't be a Stupid Evil protagonist without a proper Stupid Good counterpart. Villain Sue vs. Purity Sue, who will win?

That would be an endless cycle of Evil getting away with its crap because devs only have a mind of a goldfish and cant comprehend that rising stakes too high is detrimental to the bifactional game where both factions have to exist for gameplay reason. But they want Horde to look badass and when time comes to actually cash the checks they pussy out and make Alliance forgive.
