Well, most of early youtube is pretty shit in production quality. Even something like this which is arguably high on production value for its time.

I never actually watched DBZ abridged but I've been following Yu-Gi-Oh instead which was the first show to be abridged. Its still being aired but the creator has been suffering so many health problems that he rarely gets to work on the show. Its interesting to look back at how old the abridged shows are when they first started. Not a whole lot of abridged series pull off and often gets cancelled after a few episodes.

Sorry but the regular show is pretty shit, it doesn't take much to get above it. You are talking about a show made on a shoestring budget with a bunch of other anime as a shotgun blast to see what they could get to stick in the US.

The bigger question is why would anyone so vehemently defend the dub. If you want more entertaining watch DBZA, if you care about the source material and the show, watch the og japanese version. Otherwise why be pretentious about the English Dub when it was always made as a budget shot in the dark for US audiences.
