Far as I heard, they either just tested positive for it again because it was in their system but didn't actually HAVE it, or it was a different strain which is a rare case.
Current scientific approach to it is that it is very unlikely you can be reinfected but not 100% out of the question.

our numbers are not real we aren't testing enough even nurses have problems getting tests.
You also have to take into account that officials believe the virus was spreading Italy, especially the Lombardy region, potentially weeks before they identified the first case on Feb 21. So very likely that Italy is not on day 26 of the outbreak but probably something like day 40-45.

So still. No real evidence. But several infectious disease specialists say there’s not enough data to support that conclusion. Another possibility is that the virus subsided and flared up again. (Some viruses tend to do that.) Or the test was simply wrong.

Nobody's numbers are not real, testing is problematic everywhere. Even MoH says it so - take what is reported and multiply it by 3 for real numbers.
For example latest info from Ministry of Health here - 1/4 of those who tested positive showed no visible symptoms. So far those who are tested in just about anywhere are mostly those who actually have symptoms, so you can imagine just how many go under the radar.
/facepalm
It says right there several times we don't know enough about the virus, how many ways can that be restated? we know someone got it twice we have to figure out what happened. When people make assumptions and jump the gun instead of taking caution it's how you end up in disastrous situations later down the line. You can't assume anything about viruses we know someone got it twice we don't have enough data yet so best to be cautious.

In the case of the US even people who have been exposed or showing possible symptoms are not being tested that's not even going into the fact that we are still having issues with the testing itself. We have samples expiring and have to test people more than once our system is basically breaking down.
The irony....
My claim word for word

your claimWe don't know if it's possible to get it twice. What we DO know is when it comes to viruses, is once your body builds up immunity to a virus it's very unlikely to get reinfected. Even more so right after being infected in the first place.
But I'm the one making assumptions and Jumping the gun on 1 unconfirmed case of someone getting reinfected.... Ok bub....

You and most of the world. US is not special really in this, really. We have somewhat similar situation with tests - they are slow and so far only like 800 tests per day are done bottom line and we're population of 9 million. MoH hopes to increase that number to 2000 this week and they setup testing drive through labs across the country atm.
The only good news is that because local government was somewhat on the ball and started bunkering-up everything earlier than most, we don't have absolute catastrophe going on and still no deaths, but this will come.
Right now you can't get tested just because you want it, hope this will change next week.
It ignores such insignificant forces as time, entropy, and death
After talking to a local doctor about the Coronavirus, I have a question I hope someone can answer:
There were many other disease outbreaks in recent decades: Ebola, bird flu, pig flu off the top of my head. According to an infographic someone posted some pages ago, pig flu had 30x more deaths than Coronavirus. But there was no panic then, no worldwide shutdowns. In my country at the time of pig flu, corrupt politicians used the epidemic to steal some millions from the budget under pretense of vaccine, that was it. No quarantines, some people wore masks, business as usual besides that.
Why is there such fuss and disruption over a disease outbreak less deadly than previous ones?
