Test people and allow them to make PPE and ventilators.

Test people then allow them work in food/grocery. We need couriers, stockers, and sanitation techs. Fast track direct care professions like CNAs to assist hospitals in other areas so the vets can focus ICU.

We don't need open dining rooms, golf courses, and casinos right now.

The Washington Post is tracking every known U.S. death, analyzing data from health agencies and gathering details from family and friends of the victims. In the first 1,000 fatalities, some patterns have begun to emerge in the outbreak’s epidemiology and its painful human impact. About 65 percent of the dead whose ages are known were older than 70, and nearly 40 percent were over 80, demonstrating that risk rises along with age. About 5 percent whose ages are known were in their 40s or younger, but many more in that age group have been sick enough to be hospitalized. Of those victims whose gender is known, nearly 60 percent were men.

Overwhelmed state and local authorities have been issuing widely varying reports on those who died, citing medical privacy laws to shield even basic details about age, gender and underlying conditions, the three signal categories that epidemiologists say are key indicators of risk.

The Post’s data on the first 1,000 fatalities reveals trends that have emerged in studies from other countries that have been battling the outbreak far longer. There’s a silver lining to this, Bhadelia said: If the disease were exacting a worse toll in the United States than in countries already ravaged — if it also killed young people at a high rate — that would have been borne out in these numbers. So far, that has not been the case.

Your theorem only applies locally then. Germany didn't strike out at America right out of the gate. They started by invading neighbors because they were piss-ass broke.

Now, if you suggest America attacks Mexico... you might be on to something.

Thanks Captain Obvious for suggesting EXACTLY what they're doing right now! >_<

The problem is they barely have enough tests to barely cover enough people in the hospitals, let alone makers of Ventilators (and how do you stop Vent-makers from getting the virus post-testing?) and other essential workers.

Right now, medical care and essential workers are allowed to get tested, along with the extreme-case scenarios. Thats why this is going to get waaaay worse before it gets better. >_<

    I understand your feelings.

However on a personal level I'd rather have the virus right now than in eg. two months when the healthcare system is totally fucked. It's a bit of a gamble. All of us are going to get it at some point anyway.

EDIT: I mean, if I was otherwise healthy normal person that is. Considering my underlying medical conditions and current health status I'm fucking mortified of the virus.

*fingers crossed* here too. I'm terrified because i live with my parents (as i'm still "young" and unemployed, yay late stage capitalism) and they're boomers.

I actually have symptoms as well, but the shortages won't allow me to test ATM. The good news is the Symptoms I've had have lasted for about 5 days now, and are very very mild. Feels like somebody's just holding my throat, but not squeezing - while also placing another hand on my chest and lightly pressing it, and it's starting to slowly fade off.

Talking with the CDC Hotline number here (They're VERY well manned ATM!), that's great news as apparently the worse-case scenario symptoms (the whole needing-a-ventilator part) shows up in the first 48 hours of contracting the Virus. Ergo, there's a very high chance I'm in the clear if I indeed do have it.

Thankfully I have absolutely no need whatsoever to leave my condo for the next several weeks, if not months. ;P

Did you notice the rest of the answer to the reporter? Or the follow ups questions that came after? You want to post some of the context of it?

The reason he said he hasn't had to use it is because every time they are telling companies that we need them to do x, they are agreeing to do x without using the war powers act.

He even said in a follow up today that maybe that the companies are afraid of him using it so every time they ask for them to do something, the companies are doing it without a forced order.
It's not giving the government more powers they already have it and Trump already declared the war powers act that enables him to do it. The reason you want him to do it and to be involved in general is to coordinate so companies don't step on each others toes.

I have the same symptoms. and a runny nose (that goes on and off). I hope you're right. I just dont wanna transmit the disease to my parents, as they are in a risk group. If something happens to them because of me i'd never forgive myself. Just thinking in that makes me cry.

In fact just yesterday i've had a nervous breakdown because of that and my parents had to hold me for a few minutes, because of paralyzing fear.

Yeesh! I'm hoping you and your fam will be OK! Yeah, it's best not to think on that. The good news is hopefully that they don't show up any signs of anything for the next few days. (fingers crossed for you!)

Fortunately my parents, who are both above 80 and are in very high-risk, are sequestered in a house way out in the middle of the boonies out in South Carolina... so they're safely away from everything ATM.

Well, if it means anything - I'm 46 and overweight, and so far my symptoms are showing mild to in-the-clear. For the most part I'm healthy, but I've been always cooking for myself, and also now including a Glass of fresh-made Carrot/Fuji Apple Juice every night before bed, for a nice vitamin shot.

Please tell me I'm not the only one to catch this...."I don't want to transmit the disease..blah blah, in the risk group..blah blah blah I'd never forgive myself"
But in the next sentence "My parents had to hold me for a few minutes" Wait...whut? I'm shaking my head...seriously.

I knew that i've had contact with the person that was infected a week after the fact (it was a clerk in a hardware store). And yeah, that was stupid on my part, but they went on and held me nevertheless

Whelp, Chicago numbers are gonna skyrocket. 24 detainee's and 9 correctional officers in cook county jail have tested positive for Covid-19. They have their own hospital but it's gonna spread like wildfire in it and other jails/prisons throughout the country.

Edit - and R Kelly wants to be put out on bond because of this.

The lack of testing kits and proper precautions is going to make this horrific. The United States is already at the top of reported cases (and granted, many countries probably aren't reporting properly/accurately, or at all - see India). But still, of those reporting - we're already ahead of Italy - which quarantined as a country.

I don't think you understood my post...

I mean get the willing and unemployed to make fill the manpower shortages.

If Bob got laid off and test negative, hire him to in one of the areas I mentioned.
