the lock downs currently going on right now are on the state level, the government isn't doing jack shit and trump wants everything to open up again by easter because he doesn't care at all how many people have to get infected and die as long as his stocks are doing good and most of congress is of that same attitude, they're more than willing to sacrifice as many people as is necessary to make sure their money keeps rolling in.

I'm no fan of Knadra but... man, this IMO is grounds for Permaban right here.

His direct family situation makes it so that people like Knadra who voted for donny dumbo and kept defending them for all his crimes, misdeeds and incompetence have turned this current situation into one where a family member or friend could die. Or so i gathered from previous posts, when something like that present itself, or initial response is not something that reflects calm and moderation.

In all honesty considering how even voting does not seem to change the landscape all that much in the US, a revolution of sorts might be called for.

And of course the president himself is also calling for the deaths of thousands. So in perspective that comment is rather mild.

One of the things that will, or should, come out of this is that the scenario is exactly what quote unquote socialists warned about. Capitalism is fine. When we serve capitalism instead of capitalism serving us is when it becomes a problem.

Part of this pandemic is on unchecked greed and an overworked society. Hospitals that don't have the proper equipment because they can't afford it. Allowing people to come and go from infected areas to collect tourist and airfare money. People who feel like they can't afford to cancel their travels because it's something they had to safe for over a long period of time and they don't know when they could get another vacation. People who were vectors because sick leave is virtually unheard of in the US.

Unchecked greed helped get us here and something we need to fix when we get out. Because the next bug could be just as transmissible and even more virulent. This one has symptoms we can somewhat treat.

Virologist that speaks here daily on our national TV has highlighted similar changes we might embrace as a society.

Two most notable ones are, going to work when sick and that it has become the new normal to not get better but come in work sick when you feel just a little better. If you start coughing now at work everyone notices it, before it was "normal". High chance of happening but could be we fall in to old patterns with this one.

Not staying home when you have the flue or any other infectious disease and going to see your parents, grand parents and so forth. I think this one will happen.

You'd think looking at that chart that the US is doing everything wrong and a country like Sweden is doing everything right, when that isn't even almost the case... The only disparity between the numbers of those two countries is the amount of testing. If anything the rate of infection in Sweden is probably worse than the US... People keep going on about how the US waited too long to act and start locking things down, meanwhile Sweden still hasn't acted, there is no lock down and they just asked everyone nicely to observe social distancing and work from home if they can.

The US has done over half a million tests in the last week. While Sweden hardly tests anyone unless they are hospitalized or a healthcare worker. They are even telling people who potentially might have it that they probably won't be tested.

Who should be tested for COVID-19?

The healthcare services in Sweden prioritize the following groups:
- Hospitalized patients
- People that work in healthcare or elderly care, with suspected COVID-19

The aim with this priority is to protect those that are most vulnerable and most exposed to the virus.

Anyone who is ill with symptoms of cold or flu should stay at home in order to minimize the risk of passing the illness on to others. This group will not be prioritized for testing.

So there are and potentially will forever be, unless they change their policy, tons of people in Sweden who contract the virus, but are never confirmed to have had it... Thus their official number of confirmed cases will always be low since only the sickest people who show up in hospitals will be confirmed to have it.
