I would like to see some really dark shit in Shadowlands

Since we're dealing with the realm of death and torment (forget that flying fairies heaven part of the presentation), it would be cool to have some quests outside the shadowlands for example:

A mom's kid gets killed by a gnoll, so she goes and steals some dark magic books from a warlock guild while pretending she wants to join them, then she fucks up a resurection spell on her kid and he come back soulless, and we as players have to decide whether to kill the kid cause the mom can't do it, or to go in the Shadowlands and get the kid's soul, but in the process risk angering the powers that be at fucking up the balance.

And anyway regardless of our choice, the warlock guild then comes for the mom to get their book back and to kill her for her betrayal, and we have to decide whether to let the mom die or to kill the warlocks and protect her.

I would trade 50 "go collect some dumb shit" quest for one well written quest like that that just rewards the same amount of XP.

If you actually look past the jokes, the cartoonish graphics and art, and the general silliness of the game; WoW is already extremely dark.

You think about what's going on right now in real life, a minor plague that only kills 0.2% of the people it infects... And everyone thinks it's the end of the world.

This type of plague is a part of normal life in WoW. Think of Naxxramas and all the horrors it contains, and that's but a sample.

Yeah if you let your imagination go and even in-game there's a number of dark things happening, but as far as questing goes it's little in between a myriad of "go collect 10 carrots".

They just introduced Vulpera. The days of anything immersive and dark in Warcraft is over.

That did jog my memory of the Bwonsamdi related quest where a woman sacrificed her son for eternal life, but the son's ghost asks us to find her, and we wind up killing her.

Also that the "flying fairies heaven" is pretty messed up in their own way. Definitely the darkest interpretation of "heaven" I've heard with what they do to the "new converts."

I tried to think of a rebuttal to that, but only realized that their dance is still Peanut Butter Jelly Time.

It was her daughter actually. Also, what probably happened was she left her child to go make a 'deal'. Bwonsamdi must've heard the word 'soul' and gotten soo excited he instantly obliged without realizing what he was doing. I guess that shows that he does not discriminate against soul and will take anyone's lol

Alright, that's enough Bwonsamdi talk. Sorry I get carried away sometimes

Hmm... That might be a little too dark for a Teen rated game. Usually if there's any kids dying in games the rating is higher

Ah yes the Pandaren are to fault for having stories such as a tauren father losing his wife, accidently crushing to death one of his sons, and having to give up his other for a better life.

We've already got stuff like Pamela Redpath, the game does go pretty dark. Also remember at the start of BfA where Sylvanas attempted a genocide?

There's plenty of dark material in the game, especially when it comes to the scourge. Honestly it's just the presentation of it that doesn't make it come across as dark as it really is.

Why not break the mold? Why not have something positive?

The last expansion lead to both factions armies being decimated...countless deaths including civilians...and we learned innocent souls are being funneled to WoW hell

Why does every single little thing need to be dark? To the point that even Star Trek....a show built on a hopeful utopian future for the human race has gone full on dystopia because people want everything soooooo dark

Well the world is dark...fuck that I want something inspirational and meaningful, not just another slaughter.

I much prefer Warcraft approach to things than Warhammer.

People need to lay off that edge a bit, really.

I agree with OP. If we ignore and disregard all the well-written, dark quests that every WoW expansion has, it's evident that the stuff has been very light.

    what???

in panda land you had a derpressed dude ready to die

in legion you had a crack addict essentially die in front of us

in BFA you have children CHILDREN sacrificing people to a ghost doggy

I'd say "shit" is a fairly apt description of what you're asking for. Too much dark just makes the audience apathetic to the story.
