And from what I have been told the only to look forward to is Trump being voted out of office. Everything else does not matter. Not healthcare, no social issues, worker rights, education, security, just le referendum on Trump.

Yeah, it simply is not possible. It's just a waste of a vote.

Consider Ross Perot, one of the most successful third party runs of all time, but definitely the most successful in the last 40 years. He got nearly 20% of the vote in 1992. He did not win a single point in the electoral college. He got almost a fifth of the vote and lost by 100%. Voting third party is just an excuse to not participate in the election while pretending that you are.

In a swing state, if you vote for third party, because of some ideological purity BS (and you're a leftie) you may as well give your vote for trump. You have way more ideological resemblance with the current democratic party than the gop, and a democratic presidency would give you, at the very least, the gravitas that global warming deserves. If you fail to see that in a highly contested election, it means that you value ideological purity much more than actual improvement of the situation for mankind. That's a very selfish and childish mental state.

Its not gonna happen till ranked voting becomes more widespread within the US. Maine will be using it in 2020. Maine's also one of two states that uses proportional Electors. Even then I suspect that Maine will give 3 Electors to the Dems and 1 to the GOP.
