Internet is more toxic than ever before and someone needs to do something about it

Hate speech and Outrage community in various platforms is where i pin point the source of all this toxicity (could be wrong)
All kinds of hate and all kinds of outrage for the sake of entertainment.

Was the internet always toxic? Probably
But this snowballed way too much because now...people are given power when they have a following in the form of harassment.

    Person X has a following
Person X uses following to cause a commotion and a angry mob
    Results
    mission acomplished, "next"

^^ this ^^ Is the INTERNET right now ^^

    ---

And im telling you, the situation is so bad...im even starting to believe the internet should have censorhip on all kinds of "hateful speech"
I know...a completely insane opinion to have and "anti-freedom of speech"
But is THAT bad guys...the situation is that bad.
And this people are using "freedom of speech" as a SHIELD to continue their cultist ways with their armies.

The internet right now is in such a bad place and i THINK the source of all this is the fact "we" realized "If i can cause a commotion and a angry mob i can have results"

    ---

Im not going to ask you to do anything.
Im asking you to do NOTHING when someone else tells you to cause a commotion...which i think is different. I dont know...

    ---

    This is how i feel
And as always, because the internet is (almost) my only friend i need YOU guys to give me a reality check and i ask if you feel any of this.
Some perspective from different people would be nice.

If you easily get upset, dont go to toxic places. Most forums already dont allow free speech like this one for example

I'm sorry, but I read that whole rant of yours as if it was Trump himself narrating it.
    It just fit so well...

What do you want, for china to own the internet and start giving internet users a social credit system?

Just be the adult and walk away if something you find online is toxic

This doesnt need to be political...at all.
Do i become political if im against spreading a hateful environment for petty and trivial causes?

Is there a party of anti hate and against the creation of angry mobs to fight for hateful causes?

yes it's way more toxic. but there's no turning back that doesn't involve some kind of totalitarianism.
I had fun once, it was terrible.

Mission isn't always accomplished, because hate campaigns have been sued and won because of the damage done.

Yeah, it's bad though no doubt, but nothing to really be done about it unfortunately. Certain governments do regulate the internet, but not a rabbit hole I wanna go down.

More people simply have access to the internet.

And I can simply avoid the toxic places where the real-life shitstains congregate. The largest of them (terrorists and such) are on government watchlists already and most forums/social media have regulations.

It's always been like this. The only difference is that when the internet was a thing only nerds used, it had less resonance simply because less people were using it. Nowadays... well, my 8 yo nephew browses social media (something I'm very opposed to, but I'm not his dad, so). You do the math.

Toxicity increases with adversity. Internet used to be mainly populated by particular kind of people, but with the rise of mainstream social media pretty much everyone are online. Suddenly everyone has a voice. And when everyone has a voice, opinions conflict. Add in controversial topics such as politics and you have a dumpster fire on your hands. People at large aren't that smart, which is why you see them arguing in bad faith rather than push their view from an objective angle. You see this in real life politics as well as in (lol) fantasy politics such as WoW.

That someone, is you as a user. I can choose what I want to see on the internet.

Personally I see less tolerance towards toxic behaviour. Back in the day anything was deemed ok and you even got more harassed if you stood up against it. Now more people do things about it. Problem is that "toxic" label is also misused by many to gain sympathy or to smear someone else.

While one doesn't exist without the other, you're conflating internet with social media platforms, and people treating them as digital pubs or the window sill.

That's all it is, increased access to the internet and people talking as if they were having a chat at the cafe or with their neighbors.

Internet is in no way, shape, or form more "toxic" (read: mean and overly critical, harrassy, etc) than it used to be in the early 2000s.

No one had policies in place outlining proper behavior, everything was wild west approach of "we don't police our stuff, suck it up or leave."

    It was fantastic.

Now-a-days you have bots that do dumb shit like ban a facebook video of bread in a bread kneading machine that looked like a naked girl twerking and the bot automatically deleted it and suspended the person for posting porn... I shit you not. Oh how I wish we could go back to the good-ol-days of immense shit talking and "toxicity"

The reality is that people with fragile egos are actually the source of the toxicity.

Grow a pair of either balls or ovaries and stop whining at everything.

    Pretty much.

Getting upset at vocal sections on the internet particularity social media platforms is like walking into a public toliet and getting offended at the piss and shit on the floor.

Yeah its annoying but what did you expect.

I have a feeling you have no idea what you are talking about.

Yeah lets just ignore this behaviour and let it spread like wildfire to the point where toxicity is the norm.

Is all fun and games until people actually get hurt.
