Depends on both the platform and the games for me.

On PC, I get almost everything digital, with very very few exceptions in the form of collector's editions or other physical goodies that happen to come with the game (Cyberpunk 2077 for example, I'm getting the standard physical edition because it comes with a goodie). I don't even have a DVD or bluray drive in my PC anyway.

PS4, mostly physical. Sometimes I'll get something digital if there's a steep discount on the PSN store, or things like indie games.

Switch, everything physical, as not only is the default space pretty pathetic, the wifi's pretty bad too. Partially because of the wifi setup here, but definitely also partially because of the switch, other hardware has better stability/speed on my wifi.

Consoles: Almost totally physical unless there's no physical version of the game available.

PC: I mostly buy my games during Steam sales or from Humble Bundle so almost exclusively digital, especially with games like WoW where there really isn't any point to a physical copy since the day they pull the plug on the servers the discs are essentially coasters.

I am someone that wants physical copies but often end up with digital. I just don't have the room to store them up. The only things I seem to buy physical copies of are rock solid RPG games I usually buy digitally at first and then when the "real version comes out" also known as "definitive" edition comes out I will often by the physical. RPGs are really the only games I ever revisit that often anyway.

    digital unless it's a collectors edition/collectible.

even for consoles where physical had it's upsides in the past, surely by now they all require accounts/online verification/mandatory patches/etc.

but i will say with the recent war3 stuff and now prison architect, having a DRM free installer of old versions is nice. which physical can sometimes provide, but so does just keeping the files on a hdd somewhere.

digital unless I want physical collector's edition goodies. which is rare, but happens. but most of the time - digital for both console and pc.

Physical because I love the box art and want to have a collection of them. Especially for WoW. Sadly, I am missing half of them now because of the digital pre-orders :/

Physical for collector's editions and such.
    Otherwise digital.

I'm kind of confused, do you still get "discs" when you buy console games in murica?

Digital on PC, because it's the cheapest
Physical on console, because it's the cheapest (or sometime digital when interesting sales)

I've a preference for physical at least for console games simply because they tend to be cheaper even at launch. sure it's "only" £5-10 per game but it all adds up.

Full digital, I don't have space for a huge game library.
Here is something to believe in!

yes. we also still have video game rentals for physical disks. two of the ones I know about, personaly https://www.gamefly.com/ https://www.redbox.com/ (if you have a local kiosk, though their selection can be.. woeful and prices are way too high for the amount of time you get to play the game)

and you can also trade in used games for a store credit or a small amount of cash back, depending on which store you trade them into

Physical only always, no exceptions. Except for worthless Steam installer/DRM discs, that shit is pure trash.

Xbox usually digital because they have supported backwards compatibility.

Sony and Nintendo do not have much offered in terms of playing my digital games on their current platforms. This is the reason why I still haven't bothered going beyond PS3 and WiiU. I already pay a console tax to use online services, so why the fuck should I have to pay for the game again? PC Master Race
I'm pretty sure the PS5 will play all PS4 games.

On topic, I have a digital collection of nearly 200 games on my playstation. I prefer it this way because its just a quick download away and I hate swapping discs.

Nowadays even if you by the physical game, you need to go to the website or program for it to install and play it. I remember buying a physical copy of halflife 2 and counterstrike condition zero for pc at Walmart. It was the first two games I bought that I had to use steam online to install them. Years later I had tried to install those games again but was not able too because I could not remember the login I set up for steam. I ended up setting up a new account for steam, buying those two games again, and installing them. For consoles, it makes sense to buy the physical copies. I don't bother with the pc.

A lot of physical copies are just plastic sleeves with a game disc/card, literally no art or no manual or anything. And really at this point it just becomes a point of annoyance, where instead of just firing the game up you have to insert it into the system (example, Switch). Skyrim was the turning point on PC, because on day one most of the game had to be downloaded even if you installed it from the disc, and then you couldn't play it until steam unlocked it even if you got the disc a day early.

So we already saw physical copies become obsolete in the mainstream as far back as 2011. I've still bought physical copies for the Switch because they are cheaper, but it annoys me to have to change games.

From what I heard PS5 still will not support PS3 and older.

    Digital.

It's easier, faster, and more convenient. And I'm an adult with a job which means I can afford to pay full price for games and not have to worry about reselling them to fund my next game purchase. Plus I don't have all the damn boxes taking up space anywhere.

I like physical, because I like having a tangible library, similarly to why I buy books over reading them on a tablet. Physical copies of PC games have been a scarcity for a while now, though, so I've given up there. The only thing I'm hoping for is a physical copy of TES6 to go with my Anthology collection at this point.

But I still buy physical on consoles unless there are extenuating circumstances (I could not find a physical copy of Atelier Ryza for Switch ANYWHERE and did not want to wait for it to be delivered) or if it's on stupid sale. But that being said, the switching out physical discs is a minor annoyance, and it'd be nice if we could link the physical copy to a digital download so we can play without a disc, but I understand why we can't - there'd be nothing to stop us from selling the disc afterwards.

One of the things I really like about physical copies is being able to see all of a generation's games in a series all next to each other (for example, my copies of FFX/X-2, FFXII Zodiac Age, FFXV and FFVII Remake being together, and my Injustice 1 and 2 and Mortal Kombat X and 11 being side by side). I don't get the same satisfaction seeing them in a digital library, especially since, for example, steam will put things in alphabetical order which often breaks the chronological order.

I know it's dying, but I'll probably keep buying physical copies until they're no longer available. It's very rare, but I still buy BluRay movies of all of my favorite movies, even though my dumb ass has been guilty of renting a movie on Amazon Prime I already own because I'm too lazy to get the disc out of the box and put it in my system, lol.

Unconfirmed. There's no solid answers on anything prior to PS4 as of yet. PS3 will be tricky since it ran using unique architecture, but PS1 and 2 would likely be easy to at least emulate on the PS5, if not natively support.

It really depends on a number of factors. First off, I'm mostly a PC gamer so I get like 99.9999% digital there. The small fraction when I get physical is when I get collector's editions I never open (for my absolutely favorite games, they're more of a decorative/collector's piece).

As for Switch (my only current-gen console atm), I tend to go for digital if it's a game I will be playing frequently, such as Animal Crossing or a game I'd like to have on my console at a moment's notice in case I forgot it, which, I thought at the time, would be Super Mario Party (back when I thought it was gonna not be shit). The exception to this is if there's a sweet physical reason to not get digital (Smash for example I got it bundled with the controller and because it was during Best Buy's GCU, I got 20% off the entire thing, which is unheard of getting an official Pro Controller for that cheap!). Everything else, I get physical because otherwise a gamer's collection doesn't look as nice if you don't have tons of boxes all over the place.

That said though, as someone who goes for both, I know the pros and cons of both. Anyone who says "one is flat out superior" is an ignorant dumbass because there's legitimate reasons for both of them. Both absolutely have their place in the world.
Still wondering why I play this game.
I'm a Rogue and I also made a spreadsheet for the Order Hall that is updated for BfA.
