This is unfortunate news. They claim to not have "in-game" ads, but when the ad is being showed on an overlay that *gasp* LAYS OVER THE GAME UI, its basically displaying an ad in-game.
For a perfect example of what I mean, check out HearthArena Companion app in Overwolf. There's an overlay window that is LOCKED INSIDE the game client window, meaning it can't be dragged off screen or anything, and that window displays ads.
Here is an example of what I mean:
This window can't be resized, can't be moved off Hearthstone, and while it can be psuedo "minimized", as soon as an ad is triggered it maximizes itself.

The only positive thing about this is that you can probably just uninstall the Twitch App once the mod management stuff moves. Its literally the only reason I have Twitch installed. Originally Posted by Ticj

Overwolf is worse than Twitch it will secretly run in the background to "gather data". It has lots of ads and annoying pop ups.

I have updated my addons manually for many years. Twitch app made it much faster once I discovered it, but if Overwolf is as bad as people say, it's back to manual updating for me. Which is better than getting bombarded by ads and spyware.
I would recommend the same to everyone else too. And at the same time check if there's any addons that you don't use very often, and disable those to make updating faster. Might make the game load and perform faster too.
