Why the hate for Nathanos?

aren't these tweets fairly new? Today is the first time I'm even hearing about this......seems like you really had to dig for something outside of the game to justify your distaste for a character.

The random forsaken champion into fuckbuddy of the warchief is the part I dislike about the character.

And as I said elsewhere, him being the number one useless asshole of Azeroth.

We got a questline that was supposed to make Night Elves badasses like they used to be when writers knew about them, we had tyrande undergo a deadly ritual to get herself a power of a godess

only to be stopped by ̶D̶a̶n̶u̶s̶e̶r̶Nathanos...

What was supposed to make them less pathetic, made them even more so just because of one single undead human...

How do you feel about the one orc that nearly killed Malfurion? and then whined about lack of honor the rest of the expansion?

Nathanos character is at least consistent, he loved Sylvannas in life, he was elevated when she was elevated and is now her lapdog, there are a lot more annoying characters than just some zombie with a girlfriend

LOL. Danuser stuff aside I actually liked that Nathanos was an asshole, was a nice change of pace for a bit. It was overboard in BFA though, dude kept taking credit for everything I did and yet I still took his shit; useless indeed.

Sounds more like he'll never admit he's outmatched and just has to throw in a cocky one liner out to be a dick. Highly doubt the real reason he fled is because he "grows tired of this"

No one hates Thrall when Metzen self inserts (besides kill stealing), so why now with Steve? I doubt Steve is an evil simp IRL, so to what degree is this actually a self insert?

Eh that's kind of Warcraft as a whole. They want to keep everything simple canonically, so most of everything we do is attributed to a specific character or the horde and alliance as a whole. The "Champion" really only gets credit in Legion and the heart of Azeroth stuff in BFA.

You didn't ask me but I hated neutered Saurfang a.k.a Sadfang. Not because he nearly killed Malf, but because he had the chance and didn't take it, because he betrayed the Horde and caused so much more bloodshed in his inaction. Its probably more accurate to say that I hated what happened to him though as opposed to just hating him. Still a great character and it's a shame he's gone now.

I don't mind Nathanos. Him being a snarky trash talker to the players is a nice change of pace. What ruined him is him being a simp for Sylvanas. It would have been a good opportunity to develop his character further by having him stay with the Horde instead of being a Sylvanas loyalist.

Edit: I don't mind the self insert. Some of my characters are self inserts, and if given the opportunity I'd put them in the game too.

He’s got the writing of a Saturday morning cartoon villain’s sidekick but takes up an inordinate amount of screen time.

I don’t really care about Nathanos being a self-insert or not. He’s just not interesting. Nothing he does or says eludes to any sort of depth of character beyond “snarky asshole.”

True. I'm still salty about him though. So many times standing on that boat I'd look over at Voss and think "c'monnnnn.....we could totally take him out you and me, right now, and no one would ask any questions!"

He's a dark ranger and looks like every other dark ranger.

I wouldn't say Nathanos hates the PC in the traditional sense. He just cba with the whole horde/alliance dynamic. The only reason he is even around is because Sylvanas asked him to. It's why he's always been "her champion". It's not a simp (I guess that's the way to use the term) title, just the reality that Nathanos is pretty much her right-hand, and on his own Nathanos has always been more than good enough to earn the titles he's been given, regardless of rumors of him and Sylvanas (even in life).

As it goes for Warcraft, he is one of the best written characters.

You're talking about the story that was created around him after he was made into what he was (like in Dark Mirror). Granted, whether anyone likes it or not that's canon and should be considered when judging the character, I feel like most don't.
