All of the above is exactly what drove me to make this thread. I really have a hard time understanding where certain more conservative folk are coming from, when they think that all of that is somehow preferable...to losing some statues? Some corporations trying way too hard to prove that they're "woke" for PR points? I'm just not seeing the threat that makes someone like Trump a "necessary evil". Especially in the face of his gross mishandling of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has led to thousands of deaths.

I might strongly disagree with those who can at least admit that they prefer Trump for his pro-corporate, pro-religion, and anti-environment stances, but at least I can wrap my head around that. I mean...it's still disgusting that they think thousands of people dead is somehow worth all that, but a casual disregard for human life tends to go hand-in-hand with having a pro-corporate or anti-environment political stance, so it's not quite as surprising.

I disagree they would not pass, most people nowadays are pro both of those, in time I definitely see people voting for those, but that is just a small remark.

In general, those rights should be granted by constitution or by equivalency (straight people have the right to marry, so gay people should also have it as well). Keep in mind I have a bias on those examples, as I am in favor of both.

So, refusing to rent to people, because they are black... isn't racist?

No, when we teach kindergartners to brush their teeth they didn't learn that because of their ability to predict the future based on current or past behavior. They learned it because adults have a causal understanding of tooth decay and then we teach kids to mimic our behaviours.

I'd say Trump won because he had a nationilistic pro-USA message which was a contrast to Obama's "world citizen" attitude. The Democrats main appeal to the average American is basically "we'll give you some welfare scraps as long as you shut-up about our short-comings", which that strategy can work for 4-8 years but it only continues to work beyond that for as long as quality of life is improving over time.

But why do we teach them? How do we know? How can we predict such things could possibly happen? How do we know about tooth decay?

You see, that's why your argument is so stupid.

But that is false because public opinion did not move on these issues years even decades after laws were passed granting them evidenced by Jim Crow in the south. The democratic system is not flawless and not everything can be done through the system. The government had to deploy armed forces to implement desegregation under your assumption black and LGBTQ people would be set back for decades waiting for the south to give two shits about them.

Don't bother with him. He's a brainwashed military man, they were trained to believe what they were told by conservatives without question. There is no hope for rational thought there.

Kind of sad being his president doesn't give a fuck if he were in Afghanistan with a bounty on his head by his buddy Putin. Gotta get that Trump tower Moscow right!

I know. GP is a sad portrayal of an American vet. Supports a president who actively tries to harm his own subordinates and citizens becasue he thinks he knows better.

I no longer support Trump - he is a conman that just wants publicity and power and will tell any lie that advances his agenda, as long as he can get away with it. Not a fan of Biden either but will be voting for him in November.

This is exactly what was said since the 90s, and was brought up by other republicans (until he won nomination) and by democrats. I'm interested in why you ignored that and supported Trump in the first place. For people who once supported Trump and then stopped supporting him based on him well.. living up to his history. I always wonder why they didn't see the issues before, or if they did but though they weren't all that bad.

How has he conned anyone? The only people he conned is the people who were dumb enough to believe that jobs could magically be brought back from China. Which it is irresponsible to make big promises and claims that can't be achieved but that's 100% normal in politics so it's nothing specific to Trump.

What about the people who thought gifting billionaires trillions would create jobs?

No offense but did you not bother to do a 1 min google search on the man? He has been a well established con man, liar, bigot, racist, and msogonyst for over 40 years.

So you didn't pay attention to any of is rhetoric during and after the tax cuts for the rich? Or I bet you just buy the bull shit that is Reaganomics, or trickle down, or as everyone in the world but Reagan and his campaign in the 80s called it, Voodoo economics, because it just doesn't work. Yet another Trump supporter who claims to be informed yet never pays attention to anything.

"how is he a con man"
*goes on to explain how he is, in fact a con man*

I seem to remember you being a pretty big, vocal Trump supporter. Out of interest, what changed your mind?
