The NRA needs to stop resisting the authorities. They should should dissolve and stop scamming people.

This specific line, word for word, needs to be shoved into any reply from now on. If, just to make up a ridiculous example, the Red Cross is found selling pure uncut cocaine and Interpol arrests a bunch of them for this crime, that's not Interpol being against medical treatment. That's them being against selling cocaine.

If any organization, blue or red, is intentionally committing felony fraud, they should be stopped and penalized. If there's adequate evidence of felony fraud, it should be investigated. Would it be biased if NYState saw 100 organizations commit felony fraud and only cited the NRA? Yes, and that would be wrong too, and that should also be investigated if suspected and corrected if found. But it would not absolve the NRA of guilt, only open the doors to other organizations being taken down when they commit felony fraud.

When asked "Are they guilty?" deflecting with "They should not have been the target in the first place" is not a valid defense. Not by people who chant LOCK HER UP! in particular.

You've never purchased a gun in the Us have you? If you had, you would know that membership in the NRA is voluntary, and I'm not actually a member.

My point was simple, some of the claims of the NRA are valid. Guns will protect you from a mob that's trying to torch your place, especially if you call the cops and then are told "Sorry we can't do anything since the mayor told us not to".

I'm also fine with the NRA being investigated, if they fall perhaps another organisation will take their place. One that actually has teeth.

Have you bought a gun in the US?
For new buys, they hand you a membership application by default. Or a complimentary membership from the factory.

My favorite is chatting with a guy at the range, sporting his NRA LIFE MEMBER hat.
Me, "What do you get for giving them that much money?!"
Hat Guy, "I got this hat and a lot more phone calls asking for money."

Hey man, LaPierre's wardrobe was not cheap. And the Russians didn't give them nearly enough money.

    Both statements covered:

I’m not arguing that NRA are praying on the ignorant due to being compelled versus willful... seems like splitting hairs, when they are being conned.

No, they are not. They put you in a state of fear, where the solution lies in their membership. It’s like arguing that snake oil salesmen is inaccurate, because River Snakes in Asia, do contain Omega 3s... while sucking on rattlesnake juice...

I'm also fine with the NRA being investigated, if they fall perhaps another organisation will take their place. One that actually has teeth.
Yeah, but what would an NRA member learn from an experience of having their strong beliefs used against them? Used to steal from them? If a new organization is born and does the exact same thing, what is the lesson to not fall for it again?

Not meant as a sleight again you, just pointing out... willful vs compelled ignorance, is not a topic I was bringing up or have any reason to discuss in this context. It’s a fun topic, but it’s pointless here...

If only we had mayors that let police do their job and actually you know, police the area instead of being silenced and handcuffed by useless mayors.

I know right! How dare they arrest arsonists trying to burn down the Federal court house. I mean I got the gasoline filled Jerry can right here and a pack of matches on me, but I swear the feds must have planted all of this stuff. it's a conspiracy.
If only those same police did not abuse "their job" while, you know policing the area....

lol and if you are facing a mob with guns too, how much protection are you really going to have? You'll just take a few out before they kill you, instead of just evacuating your property which can be replaced waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay easier than your life.

BTW you got any proof that any mayor is telling cops not to help homeowners like this or you just exaggerating to make a non existent point?
    Buh Byeeeeeeeeeeee !!

I do they stopped caring about hobbyists and enthusiasts a long time ago. Now theyre just a lobbying group that pays politicians which is why they probably won't go anywhere. Probably pay fines etc.

Oh I don't think private citizens should have firearms at all, as I said in another post. But that is an extremely unrealistic take in the US.

Even though what you said is true, i'd still be able to sleep better at night when mass shooters only able to kill a handful of people, as opposed to dozens with assault weapons.

Living in the US is a game of accepting the least worst thing, sadly.

So you don't think the charges are true, or you think that it's ok not to punish a criminal organization?
I don't think it should be up to a DA to files charged on their own initiative for political gain when the alleged victims are not seeking relief.

When the membership of the NRA (who would be the only victims) call for a criminal investigation, there should be one. Until then, it is clearly politically motivated and not worthy of concern.

Victims can seek relief with a lawsuit. DAs prosecute criminal offenders. Like the NRA. Also, members of the NRA did call for an investigation. That's why there was one.

In addition, I fail to see how prosecuting a criminal offender is a political move for a DA. It's literally their only job. Now, maybe if you had some evidence this specific DA was prosecuting the criminals of the NRA while letting other known criminals go free, maybe you'd have a point, and not a baseless mudslinging allegation intended to deflect from the criminals at the NRA. Not even @lockedout is defending the NRA.

Why doesn’t this apply to any other crime? In what other scenario would authorities, seeing a crime, be ignore until someone complains?

Probably with religious institutions ignoring the stipulations of their tax-exempt status. But then again, that gets ignored even when people do complain...so maybe it's not the best comparison.

By that logic, if somebody gets murdered the police shouldn't investigate until somebody asks them to.
