Wasn't Segal in the CIA and some kind of karate master? Are these things lies? From what I remember, Van Damme was a gymnast who learned some karate to be in movies?

Looks like that is all BS and they type of karate he knows is pretty useless.

One is a guy who shit himself in fight and practices a fake martial art. (Seagal)

One is a guy who competed professionally and represented the Belgian national team in European championships and at the World Championship in 1977. (Van Damme)

    https://www.contactmusic.com/jean-cl...-party_1058456

Also according to Stallone Van Damme once called Seagal out for a fight after Seagal trash talked him at a house party and Seagal chickened out.

This is not even a real question. Then there's also the issue that Seagal is obese and probably within an inch of a heart attack, Van Damme is now doing fitness/rehabilitation videos on Youtube for the lockdown.

So yeah, they are both cringy 90's action movie "actors", but one guy is an actual martial artist/sportsman the other is a fat fuck who practices a fake martial art and pretends to be a cop chasing illegal immigrants on reality shows.

Seagal has always been a clown to me. The kids who talks and postures about martial arts all day but never really puts in the work to become good. When it's time to put up they whine and talk about technicalities.

    Van Damme all day.

That one is just the best self protection martial art. Police officers in Japan train it, if i'm not mistaken.

Nope that's Taiho-Jutsu. Aikido compared to kickboxing is like WWE to UFC.

Seagal... only due to the sudden food poisoning suffered by Van Damme before the fight.

Arnold or Chuck? Van Damme or Chan? Who’d win the Ultimate Ultimate Fighting Championship?
Me, I’m a Seagal man. Don’t tell me about Van Damme’s fancy kicks–Van Damme’s a ballet dancer, a girl! Here’s how the fight goes: Van Damme simpers around the ring like Baryshnikov for a few minutes. Finally, he throws a kick at Seagal’s head. Seagal snatches the foot out of the air, twists Van Damme’s leg 180 degrees, and tears half-a-dozen knee ligaments from the bone. End of story. Van Damme is Van Damaged. He hops around the ring, begging for mercy. Seagal pounds his pretty face into a mushy pulp–just for fun.
    rofl

Expert analysis from a former CEO of Atlas Obscura.

Here is the reality. Van Damme throws a variety of low hits at Seagal. After about 5 minutes, Seagal, even at peak physical shape, starts getting tired, and his Aikido goes to shit. Small muscles aren't working very well, and large muscle groups will win the day.

I've actually seen just a match-up. Top-notch Aikido vs Taekwondo master (Taekwondo isn't that serious of a martial art)...the Taekwondo master used that tactic and easily took the Aikido master out. Aikido relies on the precision of small muscles and becomes next to useless under long term fighting conditions.

I mean...his desiccated corpse is really gonna struggle in those early rounds. Pretty sure even David Carradine's Tai Chi is faster than Bruce Lee's corpse.
Seeing as David Carradine is also dead it would be a rather slow corpse fight.

David Carradine wasn't dead when the article was written in 1997. Bruce Lee was.

Seagal got legit martial arts skills that are way more practical in a mma-like fight, people watch too many movies with cool looking kicks n think that's kow u fight irl, its suicide to fight the way van damme does in his movies. He is wide open for blocks n counter attacks...

    You can't survive as a striker if u don't have take-down defense

Also, lol. The size difference alone, seagal is big, van damme is a tiny dude. They are different weight classes..as soon as they get near each other its over.

How is this even a contest?

Again, one is an actual martial artist who competed at international championship levels with a 90% win rate in matches (Van Damme), the other is a fat bullshit artist who "practices" a fake bullshit "martial art" and who constantly trash talks people (Seagal) and when called out for a fight he once shit himself (shit himself after getting chocked out) and when called out by Van Damme, refused to fight.

First that van damme vs seagal is just rumour, doesn't mean seagal has to humor us fighting a tiny guy

Second, Judo won vs akaido, this is why early MMA like in UFC was dominated by practioners of Judo, Jui-Juitsu, Wrestling, strikers were treated like bitches...to be a striker in the octagon they had to learn to wrestle, judo etc. so they could defend themselves and only THEN could they do striking. Akaido isn't practical vs Judo n such

When strikers fight irl they end up on the ground with each other, this is why someone who can do wrestling, judo will always beat them if they can't defend against it.

When a striker (this one a boxer) who meets a wrestler n has only trained for boxing, no wrestling..

Akaido relies on being attacked by a striker n use their strength against them..against judo they are in trouble.

    Seagal is the real deal

Why are people judging Seagal when he got fat n old?

And what is this about grappling vs striking when Aikido is neither and useless against both?

Or more specifically its useless against anyone who actually knows how to fight.
