Why should add-on creators be paid in the first place? If the "necessary evil" for getting paid is a malware infested product that the developers have no control over, maybe... another approach is preferred?

I don't think supporting each addon author AND playing wow is even an acceptable idea. People can support if they want to but expecting all wow players past and current to do so is kinda unrealistic

Optional donations are they way. I've given money to services I've really enjoyed over the years because I've spent the last 15 years or so with an adblocker permanently on.

If you're relying on making WoW addons for revenue, you have serious life issues.

Yes, then provide another approach and I'm sure a lot of developers will leave curse.

what overwolf is pretty much doing now is fear mongering the little guys out of existence

also its against the tos to charge money to have access to addons
If they don't play the game the ToS don't apply to them.

Why don't you also share the wonders of Bethesda's Creation Club as well?

The problem is overwolf I'd thinking of working on a subscription model so while you won't pay for the add-ons directly you will have to pay to have access to the add-on manager

Which still doesn't mean anything to them about WoW ToS. You are also worrying about what if's not what is actually happening.

As @Toybox mentioned, optional buy-in services like Patreon can provide financial backing for add-on developers. OW seemingly wants a monopoly on monetized add-on creation, however, so they can have their piece of the pie, too. This doesn't seem very consumer-friendly.

An addon manager is an optional service. You can use the addons for free.

Dumped the twitch app for WoWup today, gotta say it's a much faster alternative that's still very easy to use.
I hope I can keep using it, it seems likely that addon creators will move to a new site if Overwolf locks down Curse.
