Guess what, they won't get any downloads with overwolf, cause people refuse to download from them. They won't make any money on overwolf and if they don't release it elsewhere, they made a addon no one will use
The message baord complainers hardly = people refuse to download from them. The great majority will while your vocal minority won't. Add on creators will get paid and all the 3rd party sites will die because they won't be able to leech of of Curse anymore.

The app may be too heavy for a mod manager, it may be classed as adware/bloatware depending on how you installed it and it may use your personal information in questionable ways just like google/facebook/microsoft and other services you regularly use may do or have done (bet you didn't think of that because there's no crusade against them right now), but it's not malware no matter what you think of it.

There, now that stupidity has been somewhat dispelled I don't like the app either. I'd much rather use a standalone addon manager that only does WoW addons and does it well. Throw in wago integration and I'm purring. Is it worth going mental over though? Hardly.
Theres always a crusade vs those companies, not sure if you are living under a rock or ?

They're still free. If they charge Blizzard will shut them down. I don't use installers for add ons since they're really easy to install manually. So this in a non issue for me. If you download from the site and use ad blockers you don't have to support them in any way.

you have litteraly no way of telling what will happen. They have already said they are going for a subscription. Why would anyone buy a sub to something they only use to download addons ? They wouldn't, so to be able to sell this sub, they have to do shit like throttling speed or x downloads per day and you have no way of knowing overwolfs future plans. Overfolf didn't spend a lot of money on curse to run a charity, they bought it to make money themselves

If you aren't paying for something you are the product. I'm not going to sit through a bunch of adds just to update dbm or some other addon. I'm going to bypass that with whatever method I have to. The only people making any decent money from adds is overwolf. Its like Steve Jobs whipping pennies at people he passes on the street and expecting them to grovel down to him. Like I was implying with my original post if you want to support an addon maker monetarily skip paying overwolf 90% to give them the 10% or less and donate directly.

Look at the screenshot in that reddit post. It says it found a "malicious" fucking log file you dolt. The file name also was tagged "OBS" so educated guess makes this the result of some plugin integration feature that broke.

You are aware of what the subscription will do right? All it will do is make your app ad free. You will not be required to get a subscription to get the downloads as you will get ads instead. So, they won't have to do anything of what you say and subscriptions don't need to be sold. AS was said in their communication, you will be able to download add-ons as you do now.

if they wanted payment, they should have done so when first released. if 'they need to be paid' then click the donate some via Patrion or w/e. imagine playing a f2p game with a cash shop all of a sudden going sub based and unless you sub you wont be able to play. how many people do you think will stick around?

You don't have to sit through anything. They are called banner ads. There is nothing to bypass.

And you do realize their application does have bad interactions with windows that cause massive fps drops yes?
"How you build your character is not a feature of a MMORPG, it is the feature. Everything else is secondary even the gameplay itself is secondary to building your character, its the kind of stuff you think about when you are at work or school and couldnt wait to go home to play WoW or Diablo 2. We have all done it." ~Into, 2016

Agagin, they are not requiring you to have a subscription to get the addon. The "subscription" is simply you paying to remove the ads from your screen. You will be able to get the addon for free without signing up to anything. Your example is not remotely the same.

Oh, I have donated. A lot of you refuse to.

Yes, there is absoluletly no way they can add/limit/restrict anything at a future date in their own products. Their communication now means jack shit, they can change whatever in a week and there is nothing we can do about it.

It has to be profitable for overwolf to keep this going, they aren't doing this for the kindness of their hearts, they are a business. Paying to skip ads on something you do once in a blue moon is not something the majority will do. The one time a month when they update addons, they watch the ads instead of paying a monthly fee. So overwolf have to make people get the subs by other means. And that is what most people are afraid of

Only if you leave it open all the time. Turn it off after you are done using it. No issues.

This is not the only thing they have going on. They have plenty of other things making money off the ads as people use it for more than one thing. All the Curse stuff is doing is adding to the revenue pile with more clicks.

As it is, you cannot charge for addons so sticking them behind a paywall will yield them a very angry Blizzard. They HAVE to offer them for free.
