Well, the article I linked is for K-12, and the article you posted is for University.. and they didn't even say how many infections there were. An "upswing" could mean 2 cases went to 3. "50% increase!"

And of course the university is letting the sports team practice still. So it doesn't seem that serious. More like some PR response.

Not directly as you are discussing slightly different things:

University shelter in place vs. schools from pre-K to high schools (the study was made by Brown University but it wasn't about Universities) not having many cases.

Just like the article you linked has the self-admitted flaws of the data sets being restricted to smaller districts which is not a good litmus test for larger ones? I mean if you're going to start questioning the source based on unknown factors you should at least be consistent.

You do understand how population density works, right?

I can't speak for UMich, but I can say that my own school has a much smaller number of on-campus students -- being a public university, a lot of students are just staying home.

I understand your concern, and share it, but hope that they are set up to handle this. Frankly I'm a little concerned, my own school has been proportionately increasing quite rapidly.

So let's talk about Puerto Rico.

    "It's fucked?"

Well, yes, but we learned something. Remember how Trump said "lol nobody died, have paper towels" then some studies said "Um, a LOT more people died than the same time frame in other years" and Trump's blatant lies were exposed?

    It happened again.

But this time, it's the CDC outing Trump.

From Feb to Sept, almost 300,000 more Americans died than in the same time frame in previous years. While we know the vast majority are COVID-19 directly, many of the rest are other medical issues that, yes, could easiy be blamed on lack of space in the hospital, or refusal to seek treatment out of fear. Or, misclassified deaths, I guess, could be in the mix.

95,000 more seniors died than the same time frame in previous years.

    - - - Updated - - -

More from the CDC, patients hospitalized with COVID-19 are five times more likely to die than patients hospitalized with the flu.

Anyone claiming that COVID-19 is as safe as the flu is lying.

Watching the Trump Townhall with Vaush... 6 min in... He has refused to say when he got tested or when he last was negative... then claims that 85% of the people wearing masks test positive for COVID... wtf?

Yep, that's some craven bootlicking right there.

So I guess the question is, is there any chance whatsoever that Pelosi and Trump will not just agree on a bill, but also, get it to the Senate before the election? And would the Senate have any chance at all of voting before the election?

McConnell knows Trump sold him out. He knows he has two options, both bad. One, sigh and sign whatever Pelosi sends him. Two, break ranks with Trump. He probably didn't see this coming, but too bad.

He's likely said some very very dumb stuff.

Every time that Trump has an interview that isn't with a sycophant at Fox News or the like, he ends up embarrassing himself and bombing so he is just confirming that he embarrassed himself due to being interviewed by an actual journalist.

Not like Lesley Stahl is some firebrand who's going to shit on his face. She's very measured and calculated. That probably flubbed him even more.

Him saying that, pretty much confirms he has no video to post. He alway's does this, announces he's gonna do something and then not do anything. It's just show. and if there is a video, it'll probably be deepfaked.

Trump might hate CNN a lot, and some folk might think they're a little opportunistic on some occasions. But damn, the more enterprising journalists and people who really know their craft are doing a stellar job at the moment. The hate towards them just seems the usual right wing nonsense.

Even with Fox folks, he's done well enough to embarrass himself. Just by speaking, mostly.
Yeah. I'm quite keen to see what happens. I'm not looking forward to the debate much, but this should be interesting.

Yeah, I really want this to end. Biden has to win. I can't stand to see the another wave of nationalism sweep over the world. If Biden wins, Boris will go soon. He just won't be able to stand alone amongst world leaders as that singular plonk. Don't fuck this up, America. Or else.

I think Trump had his first re-election rally within a month of being inaugurated, as for voting in Biden, I already voted, and I can only vote once despite ghostpanther's "concerns".

So DeVos was asked point-blank if the Department of Education had anything to tell schools about safely re-opening.

    "She refused to answer?"

No, she just said no. Just said there was publicly available data, and that schools were on their own.

I've always hated the entire campaigning process, to be honest. Give equal air time to the candidates, Town Halls, Debates, etc. and make sure their stance on subjects/policies is widely available for those researching before voting and then let the people decide in 6 months tops versus years of billions of dollars being thrown at red, white and blue bunting and disingenuous television ads. Trump has been campaigning since January 2017 and was still outpaced in fundraising, which is proof that you don't need years for that shit.

I've already done my part. Ballot's been sent and I checked today and it's been accepted. Now I just sit and wait until November 4th (hopefully) to see if I'll have to make plans to help move my parents out of the US. I know I've said this often the past couple years but I'm reallllly glad I don't drink or use.

I genuinely want to know how many needless deaths we can attribute to this stunning rejection of science and failure of leadership.
