In a thread about NZ, the country where populists have no ground.
The country that has no immigration issue that largely enabled populists and right wingers of all kind over the recent years both in Europe and USA.

Surprisingly, populists aren't winning in such a nice country and the greatest pundits of the genot wonder why

Which has a lot more to do with the fact that New Zealand is fairly unique among English speaking countries in that Rupert Murdoch's media empire has limited presence there.

The country that has no immigration issue
More of the "only ethnostates can have domestic harmony" bullshit, huh?

It's also false. New Zealand has plenty of demographic tensions but magically hasn't resorted to fascism.

Since when is populism limited to the right?

Also you might want to read up on NZ politics before making such statements as you are simply injecting your personal believes into this thread. Sorry but i am really struggling to follow what point you are trying to make here as it reads more like a general rant about populists, what is a rather large group in many that can hold different political believes.

The majority of illegal immigrants in the US arrive legally and overstay work visas.

Yes, on things like airplanes. Which they have in New Zealand.

And, once again, illegal immigrants... almost a complete non-issue in the US.

You have no idea what you're on about.

One of the main political parties for the last couple of decades (who failed to get a seat in this election) is New Zealand First. A big part of why they were popular was their anti-immigration stances, particularly against the Chinese.

While illegal immigration isn't really that much of a political talking point in New Zealand, it is still an issue, as someone says, with people overstaying visas and so on (Which is also one of the most common forms of illegal immigration in the US from what I've read).

Also, yes, we do take a lot of refugees on and that's another big political talking point quite often.

It is, over 50% of our illegal immigrants come by plane and just overstay visas. The people pushing for the border wall are doing it for racist purposes.

It's almost impossible to get into the EU in general.

I'm an American who lucked out with inheriting an EU passport so I could always live and work here easily.

Other Americans I know who only have their US passport have to jump through the same hoops as literally someone from Nigeria to actually live here legally.

I live in Madrid Spain and there's an infamous immigration office here which is known for its impossible to obtain appointments, stonewalling and utterly unhelpful bureaucrats, endless paper work and hours long queue times. Visa extensions are a nightmare and overstaying your visa can easily land you 2-3 year long entry bans and overnight deportations. Immigration attorneys cost small fortunes.

Funny enough people from most Latin American countries typically have an easier time due to various bilateral treaties thag Spain has with its former colonies, but those exemptions only apply within Spain. So someone from Mexico or Venezuela might get a work visa for Spain, but it only applies to Spain and nowhere else in the EU.

Other colonial powers like France, Portugal, Belgium, UK have similar agreements with many of their former colonies. But the notion that getting into the EU is easy is hilariously retarded.

The refugees, immigrants, boat people etc are a tiny tiny tiny group and typically have walked/rafter across thousands of miles of deserts, warzones and rough seas.

This may come as a surprise to you, and a great many conservatives on this forum, and a great many conservatives in general but . . . leftism != socialism.

Not every socialist is an anti-capitalist. Some are, some are not. Most are not. At least, not in the US. The true socialists out there don't have representation in congress and are a fringe minority.

Now some people, like Bernie style themselves as "social democrats." But even Bernie says that production should be in the hands of enterprise, or, capitalists. People like him, and AOC, still see a capitalist world, but try to find methods to limit the abuses unfettered capitalism can lead to. That doesn't mean they aren't capitalists.

You'll have actual trouble finding any communists or socialists in the US who have any significant influence.

Exactly yeah, there's no need for leftists to support socialism since they are not the same thing.

Again that's good that "most" socialists are not anti-capitalists. You'll probably get flak if you make these points to a socialist group and i'm not exactly sure why you think I would have a problem with any of these claims.

Socialism is anti-capitalist by defintion, Bernie and AoC are social democrats, not socialists.

There aren't really statements less informed than this. The important thing is literally a roof over your head so it doesn't rain on you while you sleep. Even without a disaster the roof comes before the doors when you're building a house. I don't know where you were going with this analogy, but it's a stupid analogy.

Of course it's really a non issue. If it were, the republicans wouldn't be making a fuss over it.

They don’t understand the brain drain part of immigration. Which makes sense, if you think about it. Why would these people care if scientist and doctors leave for New Zealand?
